2005 porsche tt or nissan gt-r
All things being equal (ie price to price and stock to stock) the GTR is a better buy and a better daily driver if you can get over the G35 coupe styling. I know of two peeps that have sold 996TT to get GTR. I've run against both of them on the street and they are a handful to keep up with. That being said I had faced the same dilemma over a decade ago between a 993NA and an Acura NSX (which actually looks as worth as much as it costs). After extensive research the NSX seem to be the better car, but in the end I bought the 993 because the NSX lacked "soul".

I will let my GTR go for mid-60's. I have about $12K of mods in it too.
Car is a fast as heck and also a good daily driver:

personal pref
The P Car is the way to go, nice to look at. The GTR in my opinion is not real attractive, to say the least. I have owned s/c 350Z's and sold them to get into my Pcar. There is a freat feeling that comes across me everytime I get into my Pcar. When I got into my s/c 350z I got tired of everyone in a honda or toyota, trying to race me. The GTR is an incredible machine, but for me the feeling of driving my 996tt is awesome and I guess the fact that it had a $135,000.00 msrp and I got it for $55,000.00 also helps. Good Luck
I actually would go with the gt-r IF the car had better reliability:
the tranny thing has frankly freaked me out beyond words...a 20k elephant in the kitchen....and the brakes, and the track use fluids....heck, I'd just get a Ferrari and be done with it if I could afford that stuff.
Both are awesome. If the Nissan was Nissan cheap to run and had superb reliability...(did not overheat on the track, etc.....tranny was bulletproof)....I suspect a bunch of us would be on the edge.
Said another way, I'd only buy a car that could be raced in an endurance race for these kinds of dollars and niche. The 996 has been and the gt1 engine won LeMans... If Nissan had near stock GTR's at the ALMS.....
The 996TT, for this kind of car, is the bargain of the century in my mind, to be fair to Nissan.
I love my 996TT.

interesting....
Car swapping is a very interesting idea, helps satisfy that urge to really understand what you think you might be missing. Gotta really trust eachother not to rip up the ride too harshly...
Im curious as to why Fantasma is ready to sell the GT-R. I too am enamored by the GT-R and find myself often lusting after one even though i have an incredible Turbo in the garage.
I think the grass is always greener. For a car guy, you want to try/own them all if you can. I would love to never want another car, but damned if the urge doenst keep knawing away at me....

I respectfully disagree.
Keep in mind, you are in a porsche forum...
I have owned the 996TT, and have been in numerous GTR's now. I honestly think that if you plan to keep the car relatively stock and do not plan to track the car, the GTR is the actual no brainer. I know this won't be a popular opinion with this group of guys, but it's significantly faster stock vs. stock. I don't think the interior is great on either car. The 997TT has a much better interior than both but you do get some neat features in the GTR that just isn't available on the 996TT. If you do your research on the GTR, and it hasn't been abused and is still under warranty, you won't be at risk as say someone who will extensively track the car or race it. As a DD, you will have a larger trunk. Golf clubs sat in the passenger seat in my 996TT.... There are many here trying to estimate which car will lose more in value over time, but are you really going to base your decision on which car will lose more value? I can say right now that those that purchased a 996TT in the last 5 years instead of an NSX have taken much larger hits. My point is, it's impossible to know... definitely drive both and really be honest with yourself about what you want to do with the car. I'll end with a positive Pcar note... if you plan to track the car, or make any significant mods to the car... my vote will shift towards the 996TT. Good luck!
