Talking 200 MPH in a 996 TT

I just got my 996TT, one of my goal is to go 200 MPH in this car and live to tell about it, what do you think I should do to the car to achieve this “bucket” goal of my. I’m only 47, I still have some time to do this.

Seeing that you are in Texas you might want to check out the Texas mile. You will need to open up your wallet a tad bit more if you want to hit 200 in a mile though. You are also at a disadvantage since your car is a convertible. Good luck!

If you're really going to try.... first thing would be a roll bar.
Then good new rubber,
then power adders.

200mph where ? If your talking about at a standing mile event your going to need close to 700whp, if your talking open ended course you will not need as much power as I believe stock allows 196 or so.

The usual mods will help tune, exhaust, intercoolers, turbo upgrade, clutch, inlet hoses or blow through maf.

Mind you those mods can get you in the 700 range but that's a big bill do some research on if your wallet can afford those mods.

We have an event called the Texas mile if you haven't attended you should it's next month I think the weekend of the 28th in goliad tx

That event would give you an idea what people have to do to break 200 in the standing mile.

People who have broken 200mph in the standing mile generally have spent a bit north of 20k in mods

Hi, I think that at first you have to drive/enjoy it a lot, to know it, and then a seriously upgrade on motor, but on brakes and suspension too... Good luck!!

I notice a huge difference when I put the hard top on at speeds over 150, adds 50 +/- lbs. but noticable difference

Add these to the list. Wheels made for that speed, 5 point harness, and a helmet.

Closer to 30K, but with prices coming down 20 might now be possible.

With a Cab, I don't think the soft top is capable to hold at that speed. You either have to aim lower or get a hard top.

Yup to do it in a standing mile with a bone stock car will take you at least $20k in mods and thats if you shop around or buy some used parts. Buying all new parts its going to be very close to $30K.

Tial A3071s, tune and injectors ~8k (alot of people could install this themselves)
Clutch + Flywheel ~3500 installed
Straight pipes ~1500 (could be a lot cheaper if you have a good fab guy do a custom set)
EPL meth kit ~800 (may be a bit less)
Few gallons of MS109

That should easily make the power to go 200 in a standing mile and come in well under 20k if you are handy. Granted more could be spent, but you could also spend a lot less if the stars aligned, or much more if you opted to do new coolers. That set up has made more than enough power on the stockers though (730+awhp on EPL's mustang dyno)
