I'd love to feel one of these to see how it compares to my FVD short throw.

x50surfer is infamous around these parts
I recently had the 997 ssk installed in my ride, and after reading all the comments, I'm wondering if the dealer installed a regular 997 shifter instead. It feels better than stock, but not nearly as short throw as I would have thought (or as some here are describing).

At this point, next time in shop I'm going to have console pulled and p/n checked!

Interesting that some readers describe kit as 'not all that short throw' (which I'd agree with on my kit); while others describe it as 'unbelievably short' (which makes me think i have a reg 997 kit)

Anyone have easy way for the not-too-mecahnicly-inclined to determine which kit is in car?

thanks in advance!

thanks - that is one of the things that got me thinking, as my first gear positioning is similar to ssk photo of first, but my 2nd gear position is closer to stock 2nd gear! continuing my intrigue......

x50surfer ..
The position may differ coz of the alignment of the linkages with the cables.

Thanks for all the info on the SSK. I am a recent 996TT owner and I have to say that my initial impressions of the car are fantastic with one exception, the shifting. The stock 996 shifting is a bit of a head scratcher to me, noticably vague and to the point I had it checked out by the dealer to make sure it was OK. Looking forward to my first upgrade which will be the 997SSK. Does Suncoast have the best price? With all the interest, maybe we can get a group buy somehow.

If you can expose the part number it should be pretty straight forward to know what you got. I included a picture of the part number of the 997 SSK for reference in either this post or the actual installation DIY post from Mikelly.

Interesting thread... My brother put one of these in his cars and doesn't find the throw short enough and wants to put in the same shifter I have (B&M) to each their own I guess....

FWIW. I like the feel of the 997SS (feels like stock but a bit shorter) but prefer the B&M. I think the throws are a bit shorter and I actually like the feel (notchiness?) of it.

I've never used any other shifters than stock 996 (and now a few miles on the 997 SSK) but cannot imagine someone using the 997 SSK and then saying "I really want shorter throws than that". I'm sure it's possible of course, as with all things, but this is a huge improvement over stock.
