What is your definition of a "street car"?

This is a question that's been debated for many years by car enthusiasts everywhere, but let's see what you 6speeders think.

My opinion: It must not only be truly "street legal" (with all required turn signals, lights, state inspection stickers, etc..) but also must...

-Have the ability to use highway legal fuel that's readily available at public gas stations.

-Able to be safely driven in both the dry or the rain without getting the driver wet.

-Be able to be driven on a daily-basis on all types of public roads without continually breaking down.

-MUST have A/C. If it doesn't, I don't consider that truly streetable.

Those are only my opinions. What do you guys think?

Can we talk age of platform?

If we're talking current, Must have:

A/C
Cruise
power Windows
Power Locks
Leather
Cruise

And of course the biggest for me personally? Must be able to IDLE for 2 hours in Washington DC Rush Hour (Or Va beach for you Scott!!) traffic.

If it's a "classic", then you can forgo the Power "stuff" and the leather/cruise!

* Not be an absolute cop magnet (meaning you have to be able to be seen by a LEO and not pulled over), so must have lights, muffler/etc, be legally registered and insured
* No roll cage forward of the main hoop (I'm not down to die from a 10mph fender bender b/c I wasn't wearing a helmet)
* No slicks (DOT slicks are DOT-approved! Good to go)
* Defroster and a wiper - I can do without AC, I can do without heat, but when it starts raining outside and your windshield fogs up, things get dicey really fast
* Tuned for pump gas (or at least has a pump-gas tune you can use)

That's pretty much it. I'm more flexible than most, since I love driving race cars on the street.

I can agree on 10pt Cage.. Still a street car IMO but an unsafe one..

How about Rain-X / Fog-X and no wipers??? along with the Rain Guards so you can crack the window and stay dry..

Pretty strict definitions so far.

I'd say any car that runs on pump fuel, with DOT legal lights, tires, wipers, seat belts, and emissions legal.

Power windows, cruise control...all nice for a daily driver, but a street car doesn't have to be a daily driver in my world...just my opinion.

Yes good point.. Daily driver is nice to have creature comforts but Street car can be pretty ragged and still not be a R8ceKar..

Ha ha...touche, Mike. I think you can order a Viper ACR without A/C as well.

However, I believe the term "street car", as it applies to enthusiasts, captures 'modified - tuner' cars only. It's a name used to describe modified street-legal cars that haven't crossed the line and become street-legala, dedicated "race" cars.

But yes, since the term "street car" is so generic, one can easily attempt to skew the discussion by tossing base-model production cars into the argument.

-Has passed inspection
-DOT tires (Yes any DOT tire counts)
-AC and radio (If the car came with ac and radio)
-At least two seats
-No power glide (unless came with one)
-Doors and windows should be made of factory materials, as well as open and close at the drivers bidding.
-Must be able to drive 100+miles and sit in traffic for two hours with ac blasting without running out of gas.
-Motor plate.. If you have one you own a racecar.
-Strange Brakes or any other brakes made for drag racing only = racecar.
-And finally it must have wheels (no hovercrafts allowed)

Yep. If it was running slicks, it would no longer be street legal. Has to be street-legal.
