CPO Porsche

A couple of weeks ago I bought a 2005 TTS Cab with only 12k miles from a dealer. Was told it underwent full CPO inspection with replaced battery and 4 new tires. Wouldn't need any maintenance for a year.

For 2 days it was the best money I ever spent. Then the power driver seat stopped working. It would click instead of move. Made appt at service closer to home (different from where I purchased the vehicle). The next day the seat worked again. However, since I had the appt I brought it in; figured a loose wire or something.

Callback on day 1 from the shop: power seat needs fixing, high-pitch whine on clutch needs fixing, wire/cable close to the battery needs replacement (engine needs to come out for this one.) Day 7 in the shop, everything is fixed/replaced, but when they rechecked everything the battery was not working and/or the alternator is shot. So today they are going to replace the battery and once again see if the alternator needs to be replaced or not.

I drove the car for 4 days. The next 9 have now been in service at a Porsche dealership.

Did the original place just do a ****-poor job of CPO'ing the car? I mean one thing wrong I could understand, but 9 days in the shop immediately after purchase on a CPO?

Over the last 10 years I've only bought CPO cars; there is something about driving off the lot and immediately depreciating 20% that kills me. Never had any problems at all before this.

The CPO is generally a scam- I **ALWAYS** recommend an independent PPI even if it is being CPOd. There is a P dealer jsut north of you that CPO'd a car that absolutely did not meet CPO specs- and they refused to do anything about it. Tough tata. Sue us.

So the P dealer basically does a cosmetic inspection, slaps the CPO on it, sells it to you for $10k over the going market rate for private party sales. You think you are getting a carefully refurbished car.... a joke.

In fact, I am willing to bet that your DME may in fact have over-rev data in the DME that could be used by PCNA to deny a warranty claim- but the CPO does not include looking at the DME data.

Finally, there is a reason they don't do a 'hard' CPO. If the car is out of warranty, and issues they find at CPO inspection they must fix on their dime! If you find it the next week, PCNA pays! Scam.

Sorry to hear.

Even worse when repairs are not covered by the CPO!

A

That does kinda make sense. In any case, the original dealer agreed to once again replace the battery and that was it. Alternator fine. Everything is top notch, I drove a Boxster for a week, and not a dime out of my pocket. A completely unrelated Porsche service team (who, I guess would MAKE money by finding more faults) calls it perfect.

PCNA, not sure how much they paid...

I had a great experience with my CPO'd car.

I think a lot of valuable info can be gathered from the service history. In my case the car was previously CPO'd at the same dealership and all the work and repairs over the years had also been done at this same dealer. Knowing the dealership knew my car and worked on it over the entire life of the car gave me much more confidence in my purchase.

I asked them to fax me all the service records prior to my purchase and nothing other than minor fixes showed up. Lot's of detailing, tire changes, wheel balancing and the like. I also asked for the DME scans and had the car taken to a a private shop for an independent PPI. Needless to say everything came back clean.

I purchased the car sight unseen and had it shipped 3000 miles to my work. Car was in great shape and other than a few misc items that the dealer made good on (2nd key, car cover, two misc tire tools) everything was fantastic.

During my 10 months of ownership the local dealer has replaced a secondary air pump and the rear hydraulics under the CPO. No cost to me with a rental car included.

Every dealership is going to be different and some will cut corners but you can find a decent CPO if you do your research - my 2002 White X50 is proof of that.

I bought mine private party and then ran it through the dealer to have it cpo'd for peace of mind. Put about 6k on her so far without trouble, knock on wood. Sorry for your trouble but hopefully they can get everything sorted out for you under the cpo and you'll be good to go.

You can actually buy a private car and take it to a dealership previously unrelated to the car and still have them CPO it? That opens up a whole new can of worms as I've always limited myself to dealership CPO cars for the warranty.

yes champion did mine. I had champion do the ppi before purchase, once that checked out, I sent a deposit to them they purchased the car from the owner ran the cpo stuff and sold it to me. Cost me the price of the cpo more than I could have purchased the car from the pp but that's obvious. I need the security blankit of that 2yrs 50k miles. Hopefully I won't need it but ya never know.

You did not buy the car and take it there and they CPOd it. They purchased it and sold it to you. It is very important to make this distinction otherwise people get the wrong idea about how a dealer can CPO a car.....

I did the same thing with an M5 once, but it is a tricky thing to do. The P dealer can get in big trouble if they are too blatant about this.

What did they charge for the "CPO"? The cost for the dealer to buy the CPO from PCNA is $2000ish from what I'd heard.

Yes I bought the car from champion, should have said found the car private party. After seeing the ppi was good on a 10k mile car I had them do the cpo, it cost me about 2800 with the ppi charge built in if I remember correctly. I wanted a cpo'd car versus an after market warranty. Yes they have to own the car to do the cpo, it's been done here before check the search you may find other stories.
