Turbo S
Turbo S
I was headed to CT last night and ended up running with a 911 Turbo S (with NY plates) through much of NJ. It had the yellow calipers and the Turbo S badge on the rear. The car looked pretty sharp and seemed fairly quick. We stopped for gas together in NJ and only chatted for a brief second, but the owner said it was imported.
I knew Porsche made some Turbo "S" cars back in the 993 days, but I didn't realize they brought it back more recently. I assume this car was a 997 (I'm not completely up to date on the newer P cars), but the guys in the 997 forum said it had to be a 996. I believe the owner said it was a 2005 (?). So what are the differences on the 996 Turbo "S" and what kind of power do they make?

turbo s's came with cermanic brakes (yellow calipers) standard, and also had the k24 (gt2 turbo chargers) standard
it definately was "imported"....... and then wholesaled to a porsche dealer in the united states
much like a hyundai

It was an upgrade for 2005 from the X50 package you could get in 2002 / 2004. The ceramic brakes being part of the standard package for 2005 on the Turbo S vs it being a very expensive option on the X50. I also think it had more HP as well.?. Not sure though.
My understanding is in 05 there were more Turbo S's made then regular Turbos.

Okay, so it wasn't all that rare and they don't make much more power than the regular "turbo".
It's always good to know the opponent! The "S" on the back had me scratching my head... now I know. Thanks guys.

30 more hp is really more than a little and you never know what else is done. A flash is a huge increase in these cars and a flashed k24 car can be a worthy opponent. Most with K24's upgrade to 18g's.
What kind of numbers do these k24 cars make with a flash? With 18g's?
BTW, where are you in CT, I'll have to keep a lookout for your car!
I have a late production 2005 996 Turbo S Cab. Weights in at around 3750lbs. These cars have a different ECU map than an X50. Mine has a flash, exhaust, and clutch. The engine may produce 580HP with 109 octane.
I suppose you're right. I generally think of 30 hp as a couple of light mods (exhaust, air filters, tuning, etc), or a lb. or two of boost. Not something that will dramatically alter the car, but enough to give it a slight bump in performance.

What car were you driving that night? Be careful of Mr. TTboost. He likes to make 60-130 passes in wee morning hours. So if you happen to see a seal gray turbo going sideways, that's him.
Mind your own beeswax there Texas!!!
K24 cars can make 500-550 whp. 18g's can make upwards of 700whp. These numbers are obviously reachable with the right supporting mods. Performance numbers with these mods are all over the map as some of us have a few mods and can drive

Thanks for the info ttboost, good to know!
A Viper. The turbo S in question was grey, but it had NY plates and was in NJ, so I don't think this was him. But if ttboost wants to make some fun runs some night from 60 to 130+, I'd be more than happy to play! Although, I'd prefer to wait a little while for the weather to improve and the roads to clear a little.

Yeah, I need 65+ degree weather to have any traction. Went out this weekend, not so much fun. What kinda power has the Viper? More importantly, any numbers?
