Can a wastegate actuator be rebuilt?

I have one that is going bad. On one hand this could be an opportunity to upgrade, but my car is running so well with the current GT28/k16 setup and tune that I don't really want to get two new turbos and a new tune unless necessary.

Tony at EPL has been very helpful and told me that the k16 exhaust housings were machined to fit the bigger wheels and that the model is no longer manufactured. In these setups, are the wastegate actuators kept stock or changed as a part of the turbo upgrade?

Can anyone rebuild the actuator itself?

Also worthwhile to note is that I have about 40k miles on the car. I'm not sure exactly how many the turbos have on them, but I know it's >10k. Am I going in the wrong direction trying to repair rather than replace?

Thanks

if the actuator itself is bad you can't repair it

Well that stinks. It looks like I'm in the market for a new pair of turbos. Now the bigger decision will be whether I should go with the AMS billet K16s or the Tial Alpha 28s.

Decisions, decisions.

What part is it that is worn? The actuator or the actual wastegate flap and shaft in the exhaust housing .

There is a gap in the assembly of the shaft that exits the housing. See the thread here for a picture:

that is the flapper, you 'could' cut and re-weld/machine a new one if you could locate the parts - but you are probably going to be spending stupid amounts of money to complete the task

So in all of the k16 variant turbo upgrades, the flapper assembly is never rebuilt? Doesn't that mean that some of these could have seen many miles before they are reissued in the upgraded form?

I was leaning toward the ams k16 billet upgrade, but this makes me wonder about their longevity and reliability. I'm thinking that a new Tial alpha turbo might be the better choice. Any thoughts?

How much play is there? A little play is normal and usually the tension from the wastegate capsule keeps it from rattling. If the capsule is bad and there no tension on the flapper arm, just replace the capsule.

Great point. A bit embarrassed that I didn't think of this. This might at least remedy the issue for a while. I'm a little concerned that there could be damager to the flapper assembly inside the housing, but everything seems to be running quite well.
