996 Turbo LED Taillights- how can we get em made?
#46
Send deposits to who? Picking a random person to spearhead this won't do us any good. We need someone who knows the (probably) chinese factory who makes DEPO lights?
Who brought in the 997 LEDS? Was it Ray @Rotech?
Precision Porsche brought in the 996 NB LEDs but they said they didn't like the business practices with the supplier and won't touch them again.

50% is kind of excessive, but I wouldnt mind putting a deposit for a quality product....i'm sure most people on this forum wouldn't mind.

I emailed the seller of the 997 lights. This is the response.
"Hi,
That's going to be quite tough because factory will need to also think there is a market for these lights or they won't make it because the mold cost is around $60-100K+ USD depending how complicated is the design and how many panels needs to be produced to assemble the light.
Typically 200-300 sets if there is a market for them and if you want exclusive rights to sell these 600 sets and contract only last 6 month. If you don't want to resign again after 6 month they will sell it to everybody.
From the looks of it though they just need 1 extra mold, the panel on the back, because that's what I think is different from TT and C4 compare to the regular Carreras. I will ask them to see if they can make this and what kind of quantity are we looking at.
Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions.
Best Regards
James-"

I think it all depends on if someone wants to run with it. If they would charge 60k for the mold and R&D, we would only need to sell 100 sets at 600 a piece. Anything else they ever sold would be pure profit. Im sure the price of the parts going into each unit are a total of 4 dollars.
The 997tt guys already have 40 people on board their group buy at the same price and it has only been posted a couple of days AND their stock lights (unlike ours) actually look decent. I think this is totally doable between this forum and the few others, we just need someone who has an outlet to sell them.

I think the best way is to get a headcount so we know how many are interested on this forum. I have reached out to a factory who made the 997 tail lights. Lets see if we can get enough people to get the 996TT version started.
