Best 3 performance upgrades 996tt
Hey guys just purchased bone stock 2003 996TT 13,000 miles, what recommendations would you have on performance upgrades. manufacturer and best source.
I'm biased but I love how mine turned out.
1. Flash. 16G's too if you can swing it. EPL worked for me.
2. GT2 Hydraulic Clutch Slave conversion. EVOMS, Speedtech... You'll thank me later from saving you from going through the pain of multiple slave replacements.
3. Save for a clutch / Tires / Suspension..... and don't forget some nice DV's so you can keep all that new boost harnessed.
Slippery slope ahead. Enjoy the slide. I did

Drive the car for awhile, get a feel for it, do tons of research. This site is full of good information, make a final goal plan and start your mods. Many directions to go, depends on your personal tastes. These are great cars, hope you enjoy your journey.

them map out what your going to do next.. a correct flash is a wonder thing, but the key word is correct. i have an old giac which allowa me to change files according to the fuel i'm useing.
you don't want to have to reflash each time you discover that great new mod. if you go for better turbos ya gotta relash so i would try to tie that into one buy the turbos and the flash good luck and hold on to your wallet.....

HI,I started from a stock 996 turbo also.First I read alot, monitored this forum and made a lot of calls. All to educate myself....I said to myself that I was going to do "JUST" the simple stuff"only"......I have owned and modified all my past Porsches and stareted out with that same theory....But as you know that these cars have TOO many options available.....I think the top 3 for the fun of driving it every time, know matter where, are,,,Flash,Exhaust and Short shifter........BUT then be WARNED that you most likely will catch the disease ,,,,,,Never satisfied And wanting more.........lol........Enjoy......
I feel like the best bang for the buck areas to get more power and make the car feel like a real sports car are as follows:
1) Exhaust - less restrictive exhaust will set you up nicely to get the most out of a flash. I'd reco getting a used exhaust - it will save you a good chunk and a new one will look used two months after you install it anyways.
2) Flash - most bang for the buck you will get, I think EPL runs a special for $999 on stock turbos and keeping the turbos stock will prolong your clutch life and save on install costs.
3) Coilovers - stock suspension is a huge opportunity area, and the place to start is a set of solid coilovers. You can't go wrong with JIC Cross or PSS 10s but there are far also far more advanced and involved setups out there.
Separately, I don't think a SS kit is that great of an upgrade. I've had SS on many of my modded cars before, but eventually decided that the marginal gains in shift speed weren't worth the increased wear/tear on the synchros and transmission parts. Porsche designed the shifter the way it is from a factory for a reason, so the only thing that I would be OK with is a stock 997 shifter, but again, I just don't see the payoff.
Good luck, you will love the Turbo!

HI,About the short shifter set up,,,As told by many Porsche service managers and mechanics, also all my PCA road racer friends......There is NO wear on trans parts WITH the Porsche 997 set up......Also Porsche will warranty the Trans with that 997 one ONLY,not any after market one. I have had 3 996's with short shifters ,not all 997 ones.....The 997 short shifter is the best and gives the car alot better experience......I hope this helps,,,,,,,Have a great day reading.....lol........
Where is the best place to purchase a 997 short shifter? I see some on ebay but I'm worried about getting a knock-off. I want to make sure that I get the 997 short shifter that will NOT void warranty.
