Major differences between LWFWs?
Major differences between LWFWs?
I'm in the middle of trying to decide which flywheel setup to go with.
I'm having the clutch replaced soon and assume I will need to replace the flywheel too, the clutch has been slipping for a while. The clutch going in the car is a SPEC stg 2+.
The OEM is about 400+ more than most LWFWs i've seen... so it only makes sense to upgrade to a lightweight, for less money. The chatter noise doesn't really bother me.
My question is, after browsing vivid's site, i basically have 3 main options: Aasco Lightweight Flywheel, Clutch Masters lwfw, or Spec lwfw. The Aasco and Clutch Masters setups are about the same price (~900), and the Spec is about 200-300 less.
Any advice would be great.

It looks like the Suncoast kit may have been put in mine, it also has the cup car clutch and sprung center disk.
The important thing is to get all compatable parts. I think the bearing sleeve for the throwout bearing is longer for a single mass fw. Anyway, if you run the wrong length sleeve it can cause problems. The fulcrum pin in the housing can break and score or break something. My indie said mine looked like it had the wrong one in it at one time as he could see the damage. It however had a new sleeve and throwout bearing compared to the age of the clutch so someone had repaired it earlier.
Thanks for the comments so far guys. Currently I am leaning towards Aasco or Clutchmasters because i've seen several guys on here have used those and had good experiences. I'm curious though why the SPEC lwfw is considerably less than those two though? It appears to be a "simpler" design, but i could be wrong?

LWFW is the only mod in my car that I regretted and had removed.
Sounds horrible and is hard to get the car car going at stoplights. Launching the car hard was several orders more difficult and less repeatable in a car which is already hard to launch even with the stock dual mass flywheel. It was great in terms of throttle response with the clutch depressed and really felt a lot sportier. I always "blip" the throttle on downshifts to do a bit of rev matching. You can still do that with the dual mass flywheel.
You will need a custom flash as well, because the reduced mass will cause the engine RPM to drop off fast when in neutral and off the gas. The engine will have a tendency to stall (in neutral) or will open the throttle fast to try and catch it causing what is essentially a"blip" of the throttle by the computer. This basically causes the RPMs to drop too low and then race to 1200-1500 before settling down.
I don't care what people think or say, and this was not the reason I removed it, but lots of people including my dad were like "is your car broken?" While 100% innocuous in that the LWFW won't damage anything, it definitely sounds like something in the tranny is loose or rattling.

I agree with Arie,
The are good s and bads to light fly wheels.
Bad
1. chatter
2 harder to start smoothly
3 when you come off the gas it is more jerky too
Good
1 quicker response in acceleration and in letting off gas too
2 less mass to turn all the time
3 cheaper
So is it worth it? Let's put that up to the guys. What do you all think?
My opinion is: If it is for just racing around on the weekend for fun or the race track , it is probably a good mod
If for a daily driver, well I am not so sure. It does make for a slightly jerky ride if your swifting a lot (in town) and it does chatter, bu you can only hear it when clutch is dis-engaged

aasco is top quality products and they where there for me with anything I needed. I have used the 964rs set up and liked it. I would prefer a heavier flywheel on a heavily modded car.
