So Today

So Today whilst accelerating onto a highway, my transmission just died, got an engine check light coasted to a stop and then restarted the engine, car was ok. Got home, disconnected the battery and everything is fine again, normal oil and water temps, no leaks or mechanical sounds, CEL disappeared on battery reconnect, any thoughts on this rather concerning experience ??

Sounds more like an electrical issue ? Similar thing happened to me couple of years ago in my C2 Turbo. We were able to traced it to one of the electrical onnectors that was just hanging in there.

Ignition switch? I was unable to shift past third in my tip when my ignition switch went bad, on top of lots of other random electrical issues.

Is it possible to flow too much air into the air filter as I have recently opened up the top of my airbox (which has OEM filter) or just likely I have a faulty MAF ?

say it outright what you just recently did first... then let the board answer....
I now even more so believe it's your maf...
invest in a Durametric... look for codes.. end of story...
you can disconnect the harness on maf... run the car at idle.. see if the car blips after you do it... while the car is running... if not then its your maf... if yes ( the rpms change) then your maf is probably fine...
simple fast way of diagnosing the maf... OR just go to the dealer and spend $600 and get it replaced...

Yes have got a Durametric now, lets see what I says, will it still report the code/s even though I have removed them via a battery reset, I have a spare MAF as well if it is that
