DV Question, My aftermarket ones are leaking
DV Question, My aftermarket ones are leaking
Recently, I was getting some codes and they pointed to a vacuum leak. I assumed it was the DVs so when I pulled them off, indeed one of them was broken. When i sucked on the little nipple (not nearly as fun as it sounds, to be sure
) it leaked, so it was indeed a broken valve.
I decided to go with Bailey DVs having read some pretty good things about them and got some new codes that pointed to an intake leak. After building a leak tester (I'll post instructions on my $20 leak tester soon), at least one of the *new* bailey valves was leaking. It was leaking out of the threads. After numerous attempts at sealing on the thread with teflon tape and other assorted products we tried some Permatex. We thought that sealed the DV but there's still a leak there and I still need to do more testing. Either we didn't seal this one, or I need to seal the other one.
Incidentally, my dad, a mechanical engineer who really does know about these things, said a gas seal on a metal thread was generally a pretty bad idea especially when the thread wes about 3/16 in length.
I've attached pictures of the thread where the damn thing was leaking.
At this point i'm thinking of returning to stock (thinking i have at least one, but probably two) defective aftermarket DVs. What would you guys do? Do you have any other brands to suggest? I got these DVs from AWE. Are there any other brands that come highly recommended?

I guess you were luckier than I. That's nine years longer than I had them without a problem. There was a guy over on rennlist that had them and he had 300k miles on his car.

Baileys also have a lifetime warranty and are maintenance free.
I highly recommend them. Porsche replaced my OEM DVs with Baileys (under warranty).
