picking up

a 2002 tt. PPI is being done tomorrow and picking it up hoepfully Saturday.

Hopefully I know everything about the car after the PPI but will be my first time seeing the car in person.

Is there anything I should look for myself? I plan to look for
-manuals
-keys 2
-body and paint
-leaks but should be seen during PPI
-test drive
- anything else?

2ND GEAR POPOUT.

Cost me ~$6k to repair it.

There are a few threads on how to find it, I didn't do it thoroghly enough and it started about 30 mins after I drove away with the car. (And had 2 PPIs done)

ok seems to test on downhill or flat and hit gas and just quickly release throttle.

Any fixes or way to make sure it will not happen?

There is a vendor on this site, I believe G-box or similar that sells a kit to help prevent the issue. Though I don't think it will resolve if it's already happening.

Good luck on the new purchase... As you may know there is no 'common definition' on what goes into a PPI. Have you carefully researched that and told the shop your expectations??? Many PPIs don't pull codes nor over-revs for example. Something like a 'leak' could be called a 'weep' or 'seepage'...

Try and get a detailed maintenance history.

Florida- welcome to the site, impressive response with 4 posts on the G-box 'detent upgrade'. It will not 'fix' the problem if it exists. Someone is reading first, posting second!

Good luck as others have mentioned. Ard, I think I read every diy and tech article on this site before I actually signed up. I was amazed at how many common issues have simple fixes

yes getting from precision Imports in manchester, NH.
they do codes and i told them i want an over rev count etc. he said he would do the basics first drive etc body leaks and then discuss how to proceed on the PPI.
i would expect no leaking at all in this car. will call them tomorrow to discuss more as the PPI is getting done

bng4god has a spectacular aura aboutbng4god has a spectacular aura about
couple of other knick knack things you can use to drive down the price.

1) Leaking rams for the hydraulic spoiler. You can see it if you pop the rear hood and look at the top part of the hood. The rams are the two black columns protruding on either end of the hood. The cost to replace ram parts alone are around $900 total for both. Oh, and if you do this, it will fail again.

2) Failing clutch accumulator. You can tell before you start the engine, press the clutch down if it's REALLY hard and then you start the engine and the difference is huge like now it feels feathery, then you have a failing clutch accumulator. Replacing the accumulator is not so bad but you might as well replace the slave cylinder which is likely to go soon as well. Oh, and if you do this, it will fail again... So if you do a search, the GT2 slave upgrade is another thing you might want to consider instead.

If both are present, you might use that to your advantage in the negotiation of price.

Not quite, in my experience.

Get it in 2nd gear, take it up to redline (not necessarily full throttle) then leave it in gear and coast (slowly) down to a stop. Coasting downhill will make it more likely to jump also from what I experienced.

I just had the coolant expansion tank replaced for it's 10th birthday with 44k miles. The plastic material becomes dry and brittle over time and will develop a leak. The system can be preasure tested / check the ground at driver side rear after driving for coolant.

ok well talked to th shop and some concerns.
-tranny getting into third gear was difficult took a bit of force.
owner just said yeah he told dealer that under CPO and they said there was nothing they would do to the car

-alt bearing shot needs to be replaced

-pulsation in front brakes, but car hasn't been driven in 4 months so probably will go away lots of pads left

-clutch is grabbing pretty high has 42k miles on teh clutch so probably will need to be replaced down the line

-headlight plastic fading slightly just needs to be polished out.

everything else seems good no codes etc. thoughts?

anyone else have this thrid gear issue?
