Boost Leaks- how to find them... pics inside
You are correct, PITA, but it is done, now on to the next one. There is a small gray piece with three lines going into it just to the right of the y pipe. I'm getting a leak starting at about 13 psi cominG from the back side of this part, can't tell if it is a line or the fitting is cracked, see pic.
Is this something that should be replaced?
Thanks!

Still will not hold pressure, leaks down after 30 seconds or so. I can hear what sounds like air leaking when I put my ear to the air filter. Can't seem to find any other external leaks. Is this another check valve somewhere?

If it it's there take airbox out. Take a garden hose incisive that plenum and stick it where te DVs are hooked up. Do a test. And see if u can hear the air coming from the hose ( other side of hose stick it in your ear. If so it's your DVs leaking.
Unplug the black plastic line on divers side b4 the turbo. Try again.

I just installed 710N DV's a couple of months ago.
Unplug that plastic line try again.
If it's sill leaking then go after the DVs if u hear air coming from the Inside of the intake when u take te box out. But I would use a garden hose 1/2" ID and put it inside I locate the leak before u start ripping things out.
Testing directly at turbos.
Are you talking about the line coming from the check valve I just replaced that goes to the plastic intake pipe just ahead of the turbo?
Plastic intake pipes just before turbos are removed.
Tried the garden hose and I can still hear it

There is a side piping at the intake where the DVs connect to inside the intake. Put the hose there. I bet it's leaking. If so ur DVs are leaking internally.
Make sure it's not anything outside like clamps as well

THIS MAN SPEAKS THE TRUTH!
I'm bought a 100% stock car, finally got around to doing a boost leak test because of this thread, I am now working on fixing my fourth massive boost leak!
Thanks Markski!

Oh how fancy, you have some bubbles here and there, this is what I started with, after I got my car from previous owner, who had it "tastefully tuned".
BTW, I too would like to order one of those majestic kits, myankelevich at gmail com.

F hose leak documented- replace recirc valves?
2003 TT, 30K miles, fairly pampered car.
Noticed I was not getting full boost after returning from a DE event. I was generally getting only .4 bar, occasional .8 bar, and the car is tuned for 1.1 bar. This thread is the best I have found so I am posting to add to the knowledge base.
After putting pressure on the system from the turbo intake, found the F hose split at the T going to the rear recirc valve. With 5-10# pressure, the leak was easily located, significant leak. See pic for location-it is surprising to me this would crack over time-no one touched the car in this area.
Question for the experts-should I replace the recirc valves while I have this apart, and if so any recommendations? I have seen the EVOMS units online, but I know there are other options. I'm not necessarily into spending the money or extra work if the stock units are thought to last..
Second question-should I attempt to further pressure test by plugging everything while the F hose is out, or put it back together and then pressure test?
Last question-I dropped the small C washer that goes onto the white colored quick connect fitting shown in the center of the second picture. Does anyone know the part number or If I can buy that somewhere?
Any suggestions appreciated...

Personally, if they are the original bypass valves, I would
replace. No need to get anything fancy, just get the Bosch 710N's. I actually removed my EVOMS part, they were much bigger than stock, and were purple and stood out like a sore thumb. Not good when getting smogged in CA, best to keep everything black, and as stock looking as possible.
I did replace the F-Hose with SAMCO unit, it was a good fit, I believe Forge may make something also, and look relatively stock looking in black.
Good luck.

I'm glad you told the time to do the test
Get n710 DVs for $100. Put it all back and do a pressure test again.

I prefer the 710's ...
I've had great success them in the past on my Audi B5S4, they are cheaper, no need to service, and in my case they are smaller and easier to install and remove than the aluminum units that came on my car. I think they were an early EVOMS part, not entirely sure though.
Just my opinion. I'm sure both are adequate.
