Just an Update...

I found all the leaks and fixed them...
As I mentioned before the O ring behind the TB was leaking... here is a pic of the old and the new one ready to go in... see the difference is thickness?

then I found the after market DV leak where the top of the dv head screws to the bottom body... I took it out.. tightened the screws but still no go...
so they came out and we put in 710Ns...

http://youtu.be/fS0Q_zBgMMc

Then the test at the Tb and BINGO....

Hope this was informative...
best
Markski

Nice Mark. I have been boost leak testing since 1998. Definetly a necessity to have a good build.

Markski, have you ever used a smoke tester ? Works very well for pressure test no more have to listen and find it. Just see the smoke coming out and you found it .After the dealer rebuilt the motor in my 997 turbo under warranty it came back with about 5 leaks and the smoke tester made life so easy. It's something every shop should invest in.

Ironically the dealers with smoke testers miss the leaks at 20 psi or above...
I never used it... .. Idk but I dont think it works with more then 5 psi... thus on this car the the leak showed only at 1 bar and up... again IDK if the smoke test would pick it up.. Im used to it old school style.. windex bottle with soap and water lol

Mark actually did this test on my car not too long ago. A few months before I brought it to him, I had a smoke test done at a Porsche shop and they said that the car had 0 leaks. It still felt a little lazy for a twin turbo, but I trusted the shop since I am not a tech and went on with my day. I'm really glad that Mark did his pressure test on the car since the smoke test didn't pick up anything. Maybe they didn't have high enough PSI and that was the issue, but as you can see in the pics and vids, Mark was able to find them and obviously resolve them. It feels like a whole new animal and I recommend anyone with a Turbo car to have them done.

95 percent of leaks you will find with the smoke tester but if I get a car that has a boost problem and the smoke tester comes up negative I switch to the old school tester like yours.

smoke tester is really nice to start with and find the obvious issues. like vac leaks around the TB on the left and vac leaks around the N75 valve or in other places. anything beyond that such as DVs and hose connections wont show up until you get some real pressure in there 1.0+ bar.
