Anyone know this car? Would you buy it?
SubscribeHi Guys,
Please pardon my low post count, I've been lurking on the forums for a while. I'm interested in a car I'm posting a link to and wanted to see if anyone might recognize it.
http://www.carweek.com/dealer_listings_details_black.cfm?Referrer=Carweek %2ECom&DealerID=735&szinventory_id=270000&escapeHe ader=No
What price would you suggest offering for this without having seen it yet? I've got a price of $45,500 so far.
I believe it's an X50 car, but from some of the feedback I've seen the K16's might actually spool faster. Am I paying a premium for a "17,000 option" that it's really that special?

If you plan on upgrading turbos, the X50 is not worth it. If you plan on leaving it bone stock, maybe with a reflash, the x50 will be beneficial.
K16's with a flash are quick, but each person has their own definition of quick. It's not worth $17000. If you had $17000 to dump into a non-x50 996, you could easily be at 600awhp.
You can always go K16 billet, K16/16g, K24/18g, Tial a28's, a30's, etc.
I have a X50, I am looking forward to the reflash, but I'll eventually go for some Alpha's.

I guess the car already has a GIAC reflash, but I would like to get an actual Dyno tune. Otherwise it has the exhaust that I would try to put on anyway, and Techart wheels which aren't really my style but probably worth something to someone. Trying to figure out if $45,500 is a fair price or if I should try to push for less. I wish I had all the cash I need because I would have a better stanve to negotiate from.

The only stance you need to negotiate is the ability to walk away. There are plenty out there. Good luck!Originally Posted by HIX

donno if it's X50 you can check on the sticker on the trunk underside.
The interior is unique, not my taste at all but to each their own...
it's a steal at $46 grand... pick it up before they realize what they are doing...

it's an x50 car and seems to have a couple of *desirable* mods if you like techart wheels and cf. it's not to my taste, but whatever. i wouldn't buy a tt unless it was either an x50 or had hybrid or aftermarket turbos, but again, that's a personal thing based upon having had a flashed car w hybrids and a stock k24x50. the x50 pkg isn't worth $17k today, but it's sure as hell worth something.Originally Posted by HIX

also, i went to this same dealership and checked out a tastefully modded yet high mileage 997tt recently, and while they seem to have a lot of tt's come and go, they also seem to have a LOT of high mileage cars that authorized pcar dealers take on trades ( or dump? ) to dealers like this as their not the kind of examples porsche dealers like to keep on their lots. especially as the cars get *older*.
not saying that's a bad thing, per se.. but caveat emptor. i hate to say it, ( since i'm seemingly watching my car depreciate daily
but with 50k on the clock, i'd offer or start around 40k, but not much more. good luck!it's there.
1. You should NEVER discuss financing with the person you are buying the car from...one price. cash.
2. The 19" wheels are a negative, as is the carbon fiber...the CF has a very high failure rate. They may already be yellowing and/or cracking.
3. X50 is worth 3-4k..maybe.
4. Be VERY careful with the carfax/autocheck. It is not unusual for these small car dealers to drive cars for personal use for a long time and avoid records of ownership changes...they pass them around.
5. A very thorough PPI is essential. Sport Trend has a few negative reps. Google them, search here. Do not trust them to recommend a shop...and keep in mind in many locales it can be hard to find honest PPIs. Find your own shop.

Plus one! Even ask on here for a shop to PPI. No shop needs negative press on here to help a sale.Originally Posted by ard

I'd push for a lower price due to the fact it is not stock, is missing the OEM wheels, and has higher miles. You can get some cherry, lower-mileage cars for under $50k.
Can anyone suggest a shop or dealership in that area (Sherman Oaks) for PPI? He suggested some large Porsche dealership in the area.
I personally really like the color of the interior but hate the 'Carbon' package.
I agree with you guys on the Techart wheels, they aren't my style and I'm guessing the seller things the car is worth MORE with them on there.
It sounds like a few of you think this is a good deal, and some say it's not. I want to find a solid car and also feel like I got a decent deal on it.

he's probably referring to the auto gallery in woodland hills. couple of miles away. i bought from them once. call and ask for don in service. he'll either help or be himself. as an afterthought... try reaching out to samboTT on here. he's local to that shop and is always helpful re service or aftermarket parts stuff. whether he does indi PPI's i don't know. but he could given his expertise. good luck...
Very similar car to what I have, also a 2002 996tt, basalt black.

Is that interior there savanna? If yes then it is lighter than what I have, what is the name of my color?
If it really is an X50 car you get a bonus - throw an exhaust and remap into the mix and you can see around 600hp at the crank.
Car seriously needs to be lowered though! And possibly some white gauges, looks weird with what it has now!
Good luck!
