K16 billets/k24 billets/A3071s... interesting pics

I happen to have all 3 on my hands for a few days so I decided to inspect.. lol...

Did not want to take the compressor housings apart but I did take measurements of the inlets....

Our K16 billet is 49mm
Our k24 billet is 53.5mm
Tial A3071 is 52.5mm...

Im not making any comparisons but wherever I get interesting parts next to each other I get the itch to look...
Just because the inlet is smaller or bigger does not mean one flows more or less...

so here are the pics...
Enjoy
markski

K16 billets 49mm

k24 billets 53.5mm

Tial A3071s 52.5mm

k16 billets next to k24 billets...

k24 billets next to A3071s

all 3....

Do the K24 billets flow better than the K24/18gxt? Or are they the same thing?

Would a comparison of the exhaust housings show anything of note? Would be nice to have all the measurements in one thread

Marek,
What defines the Turbo as a K16 or K24? The size of the compressor? What does the 16 or 24 number actually mean? By billet, you mean the the compressor wheel is machined out of a solid piece of metal? Also, it looks like the K16 billets in your pictures is a RUF turbo. Can you post the number on the RUF tag? I can't make out the whole number in your pictures due to the flash and I am curious if those are the same turbos used on my RUF 550 Rturbo. I was under the impression that those were K24 based turbos while the RUF 520 had K16 based turbos. I'd also like to chat with you regarding some future mods. Thanks...

John..

John..

K16 and K24s are OEM 996TT turbos... that RUF tag came from a car that had a flash, OEM cut open exhaust by RUF , and k16s... I took them on trade since the I send my k16 billets to client... after inspection I was told the turbine wheel(hotside) was clipped on that RUF k16... which we can do for $150 as well on any turbo conversion. That RUF tag turbo is a K16... tag was R96 123 013 00

Thanks,
The numbers on my RUF 550 turbos are R96 123 013 10. Only the last two digits are different from the ones you have. When looking at your pics, both the K16 and K24 billets have the same numbers stamped in the case and they look identical. So what exactly makes one turbo a K16 and another K24 when externally they are the same. Is it the size of the compressor inlet? Sorry for the stupic questions....

Ok, i think I got it. So the k16/k24 refers to the hot turbine side (which is untouched) and all the mods to these turbos happen on the compressor cold side. In a K24/18g for example, the 18g is the compressor. A K24/20g would have the same size hot side but the 20g would be a larger slower spooling but higher flowing compressor. A K24 billet would have a billet compressor.

Markski,

I bought the K24/18g Proto tune from you several months back in anticipation of getting my K24s converted to the 18gs. I'm trying to time the conversion during a time when I can be without my turbo as it is my daily driver, like during the holidays or when my kids are out of school. Anyway, if you have a set of K24/18gs or K24 billets on hand for sale I would be up to doing this converstion asap if we can work it in a way where I don't have to be without my car for a week and a half. If you don't have any of these turbos on hand I would like to have a standing order with you to purchase them if and when you ever get them on hand. PM me to discuss. I had your phone number but lost it (along with a lot of other numbers) when I upgraded my iPhone OS to 5.0.
