How much improvement on TCU remap?
I am on a late 02 which is having a facelifted TCU...By the way, I think its time to have it upgrade but wondering how much it could be faster. I seen many tip guys are have it upgraded, can you kindl advise me on this? Thanks.
I saw no benefit from this when I did it.
I have seen your posts in 2009, u said feel its improved but finally not showing better time both in the 60-130 etc or lap time?
Right, for the money, it was not worth it in my situation.
I have found some previous threads about tcu upgrade, most of the users mention upshift time actually didnt improved, isnt it true?

That video has a 997TT, not a 996TT. I have extensively looked into this. The 996TT TCU is just not nearly as tuneable as the 997TT TCU. I had the Evo TCU tune but saw no change whatsoever. I never once had a 7,000 RPM shift. I tried several times to work it out between my ECU tuner and Evo with no luck.
There really is just no one that does a real TCU adjustment. I have checked everywhere.
Your only luck is if your ECU tuner says they can tune the TCU. I would not let anyone other than your normal tuner touch your TCU and almost all of them don't touch the TCU.
If i could just go back lol...should have listened to BHT..16G, exhaust and tune...why did I not stop there

i would do billet 16's, 997.2 intercoolers, exhaust, dvs, injectors, and hopefully your tranny will stay alive. Good luck finding an intake for the tiptronic.
I can’t believe you guys said there is no difference before and after the TCU tune. I had my TCU tuned by EVOMs (Todd Z.) at SharkWerks, when he was out here in the Bay Area. He had also re-tuned the ECU to match the TCU. My car shifts at 7k every time and she gives a better pop/jump when shifting. If you do the math, with the additional 500 rpm, the car ought to add some hp since the power curve is still going up.
For about $1k, IMHO, I think it is well worth it; but make sure you pick the right tuner to do it right.

My understanding is that the biggest benefit is that you can match shift RPM to higher rev limit.
Your best bet is to to talk to a tuner who offers a TCU upgrade and ask them the benefits (and verify with real world clients). In the supra world, the engine would back off timing on shifts to not beat up the tranny. That was something that could be removed with a flash. That said the 5 speed auto used in the 911 was a dinosaur by 2008 when even Mercedes moved on to the 7 speed speed shift tranny. Granted they had moved to the N/A motor with less torque. I believe their V12 turbos pushed on with the 5 speed tranny shared with Porsche due to torque capacity.
Porsche turbos usually have the top of the line ECU/computing in the auto world for their age. IE Faster processors, better knock sensors, etc...
