Feedback wanted on Hankook Ventus V12

My car is ready for another set of tires. Before i drop $1500 on a set of Micky PS2's, I was wondering if anyone has run a set of the hankooks. the price is certainly attractive. I can get 2 sets of these for the price of one set of Michelin's (and still have change left over)...

I have not used these myself, but many people who've gotten over the sanctity of having Michelins on the car clearly call these V12's a performance bargain.

I toy with the idea of burning a few sets at the track, especially after I get a ride with an instructor round a track, which clearly indicates to me that I am not making full use of soft compound tires.

On the street. I do not think you would be able to see a difference.

they are $700.00 bucks a set, and they are indeed a bargain. but i would say that "performance" in this case is a relative term. for regular street driving where superior adhesion is *less*(?) of a concern, i'd say sure go ahead and run them if that's the primary driving style. however, if one ever drives their car anywhere near the limits of its performance, i think the inadequacy of these tires will become readily apparent, and quickly too. i call them "squirelly"; once scrubbed though, they will settle into their marginally decent performance capabilities. and yeah, i read the car and driver tire review too.

bottom line? i would never use these again, unless it was all i could afford. personally, i'm firmly in the camp of "ya get what ya pay for" with tires, and i've learned that saving money on a cheaper brand of tires is not worth the trade off. others may argue differently, but thats my take on 'em. ymmv.

ps2's are all over ebay for $600.00 rears ( 315/30/18 ) and the fronts for a bit less. so, $1100.00 for my last set, and a set of extra rears for the fall. michelin ps2's vs hankook v12's?? nope.

i was hoping to try them, and i remember you ran them with the f14's you had but they're not easy to find in the gt2 sizes, when i searched over the winter. were o/s @ tirerack and elsewhere. maybe have to mix up rs2 against rs3 for that fitment.

Here is what I did and its worked out great. Front's last so long you will go through several rear sets before you need a new set of fronts and you get the better looking GT2 sizes.

Fronts (Get used on EBay):

Rears (New):

+1. your second link is the same ebay listing where i bought two new sets of rears. i wouldn't mess with the barely used set, but at $335.00 for two ps2's there's no way you wouldn't get your money's worth out of 'em.

rs2/rs3 combo is great setup. I haven't found any 315 RS2s lately either though

Hankook ventus v12

I have a set of Hankook that replaced Bridgestone S02a. I'd say they are decent tires, with good performance wet and dry. The most amazing thing about them is that they wear so well. They have a pretty decent ride and low noise. Performance wise they are comparable to the S02a's with better ride quality. Will they prevent traction control kicking in if you push them hard? No. That said I'm happy with them for the street. Next tire for me though will be a set of AD08's for contrast.

I have also ran the Sumitomo HTR ZIII and really liked them. I had one set of fronts and two sets of rears. Very quiet and capable tire. I even tracked them a few weekends and ate up a lot of cars!

Tire opinions are about as good as oil opinions... If you don't plan on racing and having every millisecond count, save some money IMO and try the options...

These are all opinions and nobody listing any facts. I personally would buy new Ventus or Sumis over a 4 year old PS2 any day!

If there was a 315/30/18 made in more brands maybe I would try something besides a PS2, but the 315 looks so much better on the car then a 295.

I think the Kuhmo Xcsta has that size, but I have those on right now and they are too slippery and noisy... Not sure if I have a bad batch because I have a friend who runs them and loves 'em.
