MAF blown again 3rd time.
MAF blown again 3rd time.
So I already did a search and need some definitive help on this. Was driving yesterday, went to full boost in 3rd and there was a hiccup right before redline, then ABS/PSM lights go on. Of course a mile later, the CEL lights up. I drive to my local auto parts store, get some CRC MAF cleaner, and try to clean it. Same symptoms, so its blown. I just bought this MAF last year and probably only drove 4k miles since last replacing it.
So, here is my dilemma, I do have one of the original EVO intakes. My OEM airbox is in my house in MD, and I have renters there. I currently live in Oahu. I have heard there was a replacement filter with the V-Flow, but am not willing to pay for a replacement filter. Does anyone have a factory airbox they are willing to sell for cheap. Tired of dumping money in this car now.
Also, I called a parts place about the MAF, and am told I need to know if the car has "E-gas" or something like that. My car is an 01 turbo. So now I am really confused, since last time I ordered a MAF, I wasn't asked these questions. Thanks for any help!
Oh yea, it is pulling a P0102 code. Checked the voltage and it was 1.01 volts with key on, and with ignition on, it only went to 1.18 volts. So if anyone can direct me on which actual part number to order, I appreciate that. Thanks.

Thank you. I wasn't exactly sure and this place said their MAFs are only for E-Gas cars.
I finally found a stock airbox, and am swapping my evoms out. I blew 2 MAFs, with in 4 months! Now I think Todd has suggested taking a wire and wrap around air filter and ground it. My issue, was I guess it doesn't rain a lot in AZ, cause I drive my car, rain or shine, and 2x when it was pouring, my evom had alot of water in, alot. My filter was soaked, I pulled my MAF out after one drive- it was dripping wet with water!
Def get rid of it.

Interesting that you say that. It was pouring rain yesterday when I left Honolulu. I never checked to see if it was filled with water.
how old is the tune in your car?

Hey Markski, long time no talk. Wow, it is the original GIAC tune from 2005 I think.

I blew 2 MAFS in the past few years. Both popped with hitting the rev limiter at full throttle by accident. As soon as the limiter kicked in, the MAF popped both times. I am now careful to try to avoid hitting the limiter...did you by any chance hit the limiter when it popped?

I don't think I hit the limiter, but was getting close. I noticed a hard jerk, then released the gas and then that's when the dash lighted up.
