It was about 22 hours total for the job start to finish. Yes, special tools are needed to adjust the timing of the motor. You definitely want someone who knows what they are doing. I put an hour of track time on the car this past Sunday and the car ran like a champ. My techs are top notch.

Hi pwdrhound,

is the car still running silent without clicking noise after the new lifters? I wonder if it came back over time. Have to make a decision if this is worth to do. My engine rebuild is coming soon.

Yes, engine is very quiet still without any clicking noises. I have 30 track days on the engine since the new lifters and all is great.

Absolutely do the 997 lifters. P/N 996.105.255.25

Early cars 01s and some 02s have 996.105.255.10

Later cars have 996.105.255.20 which are supposed to be less prone to failure yet looks identical to the .10s . The .25s (997 lifters) have a slightly dfferent design.

How did the exhaust lifter fail? The new ones are same as they old ones all the way back to 2001..

Edit saw your collapsed exhaust lifter few pages back.

Pwdrhound, is your engine still quiet and smooth after few years?

My engine hss just started making that ticking noise after a recent oil change, the noise is better a few minutes after start but it is definitely still there.
Does it worth doing all the lifters when engine is out?
Thank you.

Is it safe to drive when it makes such noise?
