Updated Headlights
Updated Headlights
I received pictures of my freshly painted headlights today (they will ship today or tomorrow).
They were disassembled, painted and reassembled.
I have always hated all the chrome on the front of these cars (especially the dark colors). I actually like the styling of the headlights, I just don't like the chrome. The turbo emblem is the only place chrome was used on our cars and that made the headlights look even more out of place.
Thanks to 6speedonline members, I knew there was hope.
After looking at a lot of versions, this paint scheme and having them painted inside the lens was my favorite.
BTW the driving/fog light lens is still clear (hard to tell in the photo) and the diffuser for the turn signal is tinted, so the light will still shine through.
Hopefully I'll have them on my car and will post finished pictures next week. The process took approximately 2 weeks and costs under $500.
My flame suit is on.

i think they'll look great. hard to tell in those pics final results. i have been considering the cheap vinyl covers on ebay but i'm afraid they'll look cheap, since they are.
painted is best, so you did it right.

Thanks guys. I'm really excited to get them back in the car.
After I see the headlights in person then I will PM anyone interested.

Interesting.
Working from the inside is definately the ticket......though most difficult.
So it appears you still may have the silver bottom edge contrasting against your black car?
That actually could be painted externally without any issue. People with silver cars would have no issue.
Kudos to you for taking a run at this.
I'll stay tuned.

I don't mind that clear plastic area as it looks like a reflector. What would be nice is LED daytime running lights in that area.

funny you mention that. if the gb works out that's gonna be the trigger event for me. the more i look at what steve's done in these pics, the better it looks. i saw someone's car recently that had them covered, but not painted, and it still looked pretty good to me. it's a cool yet subtle mod, it seems not many people do. def waiting for the installed and hopefully better

Very nice, looking forward to seeing installed pix.
As you said; I like the headlight styling, just not all the chrome.
Also wondering how black painted headlights would look with red body color.
