Inspection Problem for 1996 993

This is a 993 question but since I have a 996TT also I figure I would ask you guys. In New York they changed how annual inspections are done as of April 05. Now all they do is plug into the OBD2 port and check the appropriate systems rather than putting a probe in the exhaust. My 993 failed because they say power was interrupted to the computer at some point and the car must be driven for 100 miles or so to reset the computer. All systems read "not ready". The power interruption was caused by me installing a new battery last year or over 1400 miles ago. The dealer has no answer for me and the regional Porsche tech. rep. doesn't either. I called Porsche in Atlanta and told them it's their problem and I'm waiting for someone to call me back. The car is bone stock. Any idea's?

Just tell them you'll go for a ride and be back in an hour
It they're right, so be it. Probably not though, 1400 miles
ago is a long time. The only thing I would do is really to
drive those 100 miles asap and bring the car in at full
operating temperature to the same shop at the end of
the drive.

usually within 100 miles most of the readiness monitor flags should be set or a few drive cycles
1996 models are allowed 2 not ready's to pass OBD2 insp.

too bad you are not in NJ...I could have helped you as I am a certified private insp. facility and emission repair facility

1400 miles ago has nothing to do with this

No sorry, the only guys I know on Long Island are detailers

5 not ready monitors is usually from a very recent battery disconnect...you have something else going on there

See if you can hook up with someone who is willing to do a dyno bypass...which I could help more
