Muffler heat shield

Hi:

This might be a stupid question but over the winter I put an aftermarket exhaust on my car. When I removed the factory muffler there was a molded foil-like heat shield attached to it to protect the bumper. With the new exhaust there is no way to re-attach that heat shield. Do I need it? If so, how do I attach it? I will be putting the car back on the road soon and don't want to melt my bumper cover. It is a twin can exhaust system.

I believe that heat shield that runs the width of the rear end attaches with 3 bolts to the sub-frame. So should be able to get it back on I would think.

Yes, it's the one the runs the width of the car but I believe it was totally just attached to the muffler itself. I'll have to look again (it's been a while since I swapped the exhaust) but I didn't see a way to attach it without the factory muffler.

Anyone with aftermarket exhaust, did you get this shield back in place?

Mine is still on the car - I have an aftermarket exhaust.

Alright, thanks. I guess I better look at this thing and figure out how to mount it on there.

From what I remember it is 3 overly long bolts - 13mm I think that bolt it to the sub-frame.

It is bolted to the car with numerous 10mm bolts as I recall. It bolts on no problem and covers your exhaust. I would recommend using it so you shield your bumper cover from heat.

I also remember slicing my finger nicely on the edge of that damn thing when re-installing it. Use gloves!
