Air Cooled guy comes to Dark Side

For nearly 30 years I have been a dedicated, if not outspoken, Air Cooled 911 addict. My 75 Carrera is a true Porsche lover's sweetheart. A nicely balanced and built '88 3.2 and suspension upgrades and a perfect body. But I digress, I recently purchased a beautiful 2002 996tt with but 26,000 miles and very near perfect. I love my 75 for it's raw, true Porsche driving experience but this 996tt is a truly amazing vehicle. I love the GT qualities of creature comforts and a sedan like cruising when that's what you want and the monster power when to need that! Anyway here's the cars. I look forward to meeting some of you here and learning all I can about this newest beast.
Donny

The black bras are for cross country or bug season at highway speeds here in Arizona. The clear bra is next for everyday.
"The girls all look better with their bras off!" (not always true)
Has anyone tried that new spray-on clear coverage? Supposedly you spray it on yourself (rattle can) over a taped off area and viola.. it's a plastic clear bra that can be removed fairly easily without damaging the paint. Sounds kinds Pep Boys to me but I just askin'... anybody seen or used it?

"Artist" been drawing on walls since I was a kid. Now it's canvas and oil.. My garage graphic gets plenty of attention. I want my German girls to feel at home while they are sharing a space together.
Here's couple of other Porsche cartoons...

Whereitsat,
Can I see a side view of your car? It has black wheels right?

Yes, she does have black wheels.

19" black wheels. I'm not sure of the make, they came on the car. I believe the previous owner purchased the set from discount tires. I also have the 18" OEM set. I may paint them to match the car.

Edit: not sure why the forum is posting my pic upside down.

Congrats on the beautiful car - I'm jealous that you get to drive both of those awesome rides.

Your wheels are Victor Equipment and are Porsche specific aftermarket wheels - and Discount Tire does sell them.

Congratulations on the purchase, the car looks great in white.

The oil cooled cars will always be classics.

The garage is awesome!

just heard about it myself. i'd rather try that than use that 3m clear bra stuff again. which is still better than those real ones.

the rattle can stuff is also by 3m.. like 50$ a kit. i'd try it but i taped my hood to offset boulders

Pics from an iphone? Take them with the volume buttons up (not down) when your shooting in landscape. That will put them on the right side up when you post them on forums.

Congrats on the car, FYI aircooled was the darkside you're now on the right side. Only "Porschephiles" stick with air cooled and all dealer parts, they are like Harley riders, "purists". If you want a fast car that's also a Porsche, watercooled is the only way to go.

I can hear the hardcores running now to say their piece hahah..

Congrats on the 996TT, will be one of the most fun cars you'll ever have. First Mod, click here!

Congrats Donny!

I'm looking to go the other way -- i.e. pick up an air cooled Porsche to join my 996TT. I'd probably go with an 80's era SC or 3.2, but I'd be very interested in your thoughts on having both cars. Do you see yourself having the time and desire to drive both regularly? (as we know, these cars are meant to be, and need to be, driven! How has the maintenance been on your air cooled -- do you expect it will be similar (in cost) as your new ride?

Thank you sir... I have been an Air Cooled loyalist and H2o hater for way too long. While I still find the AC car to be the most fun to drive, in the twisties, the 996tt is another ball game. Air Cooled cars are far, far easier to maintain yourself. I've done most of the work on my 3.2 equipped '75. No power anything, no air conditioning, no stability management or other driver assists to take away that raw (real Porsche) experience. I will be driving my '75 more than the faster, more elegant turbo. Repairs to this new car are probably above my pay grade so upkeep and risks of higher cost issues will likely step up with the more complex turbo and all it's systems. They are all meant to be driven but the early car can be driven flat out and is very predictable to pilot for me after so many rewarding years. Not so with this new rocket. I will acclimate I'm sure but the difference certainly has my respect right now!

My biggest worry would be the IMS that every one talks about and nobody understands...? Hopefully exercise and diet will prevent such issues.
It's too quite for me and the ride height isn't' as sweet as my '75 but it is so cool I can't criticize it's drawbacks.
