What else should I do while dropping the engine?

So in a few months I'll be dropping the engine on my 996 Turbo to do a bit of work on it. We'll be replacing the turbos with K24 billets, putting in a new clutch, and a few other things.

However, what are some other things I should do with the engine out? I've heard that welding the coolant pipes is a great idea. Does anyone have any more information about this, and is there anything else that I should consider doing?

Thanks guy!

The GT2 conversion I will be doing as well. For intake piping I was leaning towards a Y-pipe of some kind?

Coolant hoses would be a good idea as well.

Anything that is still OEM and hard to get to.

This will be obvious after it's dropped.

Does anyone have a link on welding the coolant pipes? When I asked the Porsche mechanics here in the city about it they weren't familiar with it

I'd consider replacing as many hoses , clamps as practical especially if never done before. do silicone hoses now if you want to. Along with the recommended slave conversion- coolant weld. Doing wastegates as well? Diverted valves?
Would hate to see this bill!

Yes, I'll be doing wastegates and diverter valves as well. I was just wondering if you guys could think of what hoses and such I may need to replace. The bill is not going to be pretty...

You would be much better off putting in a Hi-Flow intake plenum with enlarged piping to help feed your new turbos additional air. You can easily install a Y-Pipe with the motor in the car any time - it's a lot more difficult to install a plenum with the motor in and IMO, it's a better mod for you at this stage, than a Y-Pipe.

Here is an example of our premium SpeedTech Hi-Flow Plenum with hard piping - this is what I would recommend:
