Suggestions on replacement for this trim

My car is new to me and has only 10k and the Porsche dealer said this is common especially in the AZ heat. Through Porsche it's an entire replacement with the entire gauge cluster and trim for the low, low cost of $1600 or something like that.

I have seen a vendor on this forum selling a carbon fiber trim piece for $300, but I have many wood trim pieces first of all and secondly how difficult is it to take this apart to just replace the trim piece and is there other options of what to do? This piece just hanging there is driving me crazy.

if its a urethane coating you could sand it down to smooth it out then reclearcoat it. might be enough to pass muster

I cant believe the bezel is not available separately. Maybe find a good used piece? Someone may fabricate a new piece at a more reasonable cost.

Do a search in eBay for porsche 996 woodgrain. There is a dark wood gauge surround for $175

I did that exact search and didn't see the item? There is one with the entire top piece in black and the wood grain bezel but it's $375 and hard to tell if if matches. I think it's darker. Is that the one?

I could have sworn that it was 175 but just checked and you're right. Looking at your picture again you may have light wood and not the dark wood. Try puting a wtb ad in the marketplace and youll get offers.

Enclavet has the part. And I see the entire top piece and trim piece in just black for $90 which is always a backup plan and I also seen just the black trim bezel piece for around $30 just about a week or two ago. The dealership said it will just keep happening again with the AZ heat and just normal age so depending on prices I may just go that route.
