Rolled Front Fender For Wider Wheel?

Hi All,
Was just wondering if anyone has rolled their front fender for a 9" wheel and a little more of a flush look with the body line?

Ive been looking at the Forgestar F14s and you can get a deep concave wheel at the 9" width. One thing that has sort of bugged me with most wheel sets is the flat nature of the front wheel when you can get very deep with the rear.

Has anyone done this? Id like to avoid a stretched tire if possible as I had to do that slightly with my old car and wasnt a fan.

I've got 18x9" BBS E88's with 245/40 R888's on the front. I had to roll the fenders (payed a local guy to do it since it takes a little finesse to not crack the paint) and I had to adjust/modify the radiator brackets and heat/mold the fender liners to get them to fit. It took a bit of work but I don't get any rubbing now.

I could probably throw on some 5mm spacers if I wanted to make them even more flush but it looks fine to me and I don't want to deal with the possibility of rubbing.

I think that yours looks flush enough for me without having to do any stretching. What offset are your fronts?

Thanks!

BTW - what part of VA are you in?

Honestly, I have no idea what the offset is. I bought the car with the E88's on it and since they are custom 3 piece they don't have an offset stamped on them (offset depends on the combination of the center, the outer lip and inner barrel).

In regards to the radiator bracket modification, here are a few threads that helped:

i have for several years run the f14 in a 9" w 40 offset in front with absolutely no issues. the rears need to be rolled to "properly accommodate" the 12", but this setup is marginally better looking and handling about the same, as when i ran twists lowered plus 7x15 spacers.

what you propose assuming you go wider rear also will be the penultimate choice for the car for stance for looks AND handling.

Oh cool. Im down that way a couple times a summer to go to my little brother's baseball tournys.

Thanks again! I will read up on that for when the time comes. Not doing it in the dead winter without a heated garage. The paint cools too quickly.

What offset did you get for the 12" rears? I have heard of guys being able to wedge the GT2 wheels in the rear so I wasnt too worried about the back.

im 40mm frt/rear both. but you're right, car seem(ed) fine all the time i ran the 315/30 but optimally i would let the offset do what spacers are simply trying to compensate for. so, yeah, they'll "fit" but given you are ( presumably??) ordering them as a custom order/fitment, then might as well take into account that 40mm is just about "perfect".

i still feel the occasional momentary rub in the rear @ fender liner but nothing could prevent that! it's usually a off camber in/out apex momentary kinda deal, accompanied by major shock compression. not any every day kind of a concern.

Ok, I think I might need a little clarification. Are you saying that you are running 40/40 with a 9/12 setup now with or without spacers?

From the way it sounds it would be
19x9+40 fronts with 245/35/19
19x12+40 rears with 315/30/19

I have a friend who is experienced with 'pushing' liners a little bit with a heat gun and some patience so that shouldnt be too much of an issue. I had to do the same thing with my old 7.

Front fenders rolled. 18x9 ET47, -3.25º camber, 18x12 ET40, -2.5º camber, 245/40/18 and 305/35/18 tires.

Thankya thankya. Have you used the setup with street camber settings or just typically use the same settings for street and track?

yeah, the rolling of the inner rear fender lips is a piece of cake, heat gun and mallet. perfect.

my apology, with all the mention of gt2 wheel/sis(s) i assumed you meant 18's. pretty sure pwdrhounds running same 18's with similar offsets but even if 19's just follow his advice, you could do a whole lot worse lol

My friend and I split an Easton's roller a couple years ago so no worries there.

I can convert the sizes pretty easily. One of my go-to sites for that has always been: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Great for seeing what the closest tire is to maintaining stock diameter and what the changes would be to your speedo readings.

good point! ( iirc? ) the difference in speedo#'s vs actual speed running 235/40 X 315/30 ( 18 ) is maybe+2 mph. if awd? then no rolling diameter issues either.

245/40/18 -> 245/35/19 = +0.1% difference

305/35/18 -> 305/30/19 = -0.8% difference

Not too bad as both are sub 1% in terms of difference so it shouldnt have any real impact on the drivetrain. Might need to wait on it though until I can get a set of coilovers in there so a little more clearance in the rear.
