Anyone pick up the Cobb Accessport for their 996TT?
I can see how you may have been frustrated and if I had anything to do with that I apologize. I'll be sure to look back at my email archives as I see nothing with your username on 6. As a long time sponsor here I mean it when I say if there's anything I can try to do to help any member please let me know and I will always do my best. Weather it was myself, one of my colleagues and or anyone else that you dealt with on this nobody's perfect and I certainly never claim to be. But I sure do try hard and I'm here to help anyone as much as I can. Also not sure if you got it from one source and got help from another but it in the end what matters is that you're sorted and again I'm glad it worked out without issue. I never recall anyone being too upset about anything and I don't try to upset people. Always willing to hear feedback. Personally I work hard for a pretty solid track record and reputation.
Sorry for the insane amount of auto correct especially in the previous post but hopefully it all made sense
Cheers

In terms of some feedback, I do indeed have a bydesign invoice from you for a Cobb accessport and put the order through based on your reputation and track record.
Suggest you search your business / personnel emails with the dates mentioned in my post and the word "smith" if you can't locate the emails regarding my queries on loosing the fuel gauge after loading the files. (no link at all with 6speedonline)
Bottom line is I chose not to take up with you that I had to eat extra time and money that I didn't expect I would need to spend sorting out an off the shelf tune supplied by you. Yes I see you their to support me, but at the same time, I'm burning time and dollars that frankly I shouldn't be. In terms of the technical advice on trouble shooting the fuel gauge issue, you did some great work for me prior to that point in time (helping me out with some parts not supplied by your). But your one sentence response that used words such as "try", glitch", "firmware updates" need a "laptop" got me off side and made me feel like I got a protype accessport with the wrong firmware version to start with.
I have a perception that you got the trouble shooting on the fuel gauge totally wrong as your proposed fixes that were followed weren't going to fix the issue on my fuel gauge with the benefit of hindsight (per Alslan's post and discussion with someone who I would consider a fellow peer to you who also explained to me a similar root cause as Aslan's). That cost me time and money and I felt more comfortable asking a peer tuner for a second opinion than the path you had me go down and the path your were setting going to Cobb would just further burn time and money. (eg how many times do you need to load an ots tune file)

Well Smith, Sorry for your experience. Seams it caused you quite an inconvenience. Not normal for me and you even mentioned I was helpful to you on things even not purchased from me. Either way if that was enough to upset you that much I offer an official apology and more. If you reach out I will gladly make it right for you mate. The fuel gauge issue is common on the 996. At the time perhaps I didn't connect it to the tune which it has nothing to do with directly. I have a very close relationship with Cobb and at the very least I would not stop you from looking into it with the manufacture or telling you that I would ask about it which I probably did. Simply driving it or restarting may have fixed it in most cases or the issue was simply random. I have done hundreds and seen this now only a couple of times after installing a tune remotely. And it never was a big issue or went unresolved or needed too much attention. So if someone thinks it's from the tune we scratch our heads until later now I have a simple answer. I cant find anything under smith for a 996 and this issue in my archives. But I do care to properly resolve your defecit. May I ask that you email me back from that chain? I will read the entire thing and get right back to you. Fair enough?

Wow, What happened to the thread? I got busy and missed a day but what can I say but wow. I look at various forums and I really like 6 speed but I look to it for information that I am looking for. I will always find someone to help and offer advice. Taking over the thread to give a negative experience really doesnt help anyone. I am dealing with Sam and he is nothing but a true gentleman. I just finished doing a custom tune with him for my X50 as STage 2 and mafless. I have asked him a hundred questions some of which Im sure he laughed at, but he responded...Hes in Cali, Im in Ontario.Canada and hes responding to me at midnight as Im wrenching under my car trying to adjust my wastegate actuators..Oh did i say there were no bolts on the actuator rod...completely corroded off and it had seized...Figured it out with much help from Sam...I just loaded the map and I just started it..Sounds great, idles well just have to wait to do a good run until nightime.. I had a tune on my car from another tuner about 10 years ago..sent out the ECU got it back and that was it..No logging as with the Accessport, and no support after spending 3000 dollars ten years ago. I love the fact I can data log and Sam is with me all the way potentially making My car the best for me.I went by everyones recommendation and went with Sam for a custom tune and I am very pleased so far..Can i say very pleased again.. is that apporpriate.
On all these tunes while the ecu is being flashed I also say my gas gauge go to zero, another time I say my temp indicator go on..and then it is all cool when i start the engine..I understand we are paying money on a vehicle that is not necessarily cheap and you expect top notch service. I get it but there must be an allowance for potential glitches. Dont see how contacting a protuner or Cobb support costs you more money when it is merely troubleshooting an issue with the flash.. Well i said my 2 cents and Im not bashing the comments just rather keep the comments to evaluating the Cobb tuner on our cars...If u have an issue then contact them it is that simple...Laying it out for something that happened a year ago doesnt help me at all. I want to know what i can do with a flash for my mods on my car and what to expect...very simple...Also the simple fact that the protuners will play with a new flash if i do more mods down at a later date , is money in the bank for me..Bottom line wouldnt hesitate to deal with Cobb or Sam again...They r A+++

Again, all OTS I have seen with COBB show knock sums upstairs. Every single one!. It's a little bothersome but nothing to really worry about. I went further and had Sam tune the car as OTS is always OTS and not custom tailored no matter how good. At least now I can hound Sam when needed. He seems to have a good following with limited (if any) complaints.
Worst case you got put off tuning your expensive Porsche. Put it in perspective. It sucks, but it's a minor issue in the grand scheme of things.
Good luck.

Chris,
Thanks buddy. You killed it and I definitely think you should share pictures of what you found on here. First time I've seen them literally almost completely gone. That was crazy ha ha.
Smit, because I sort of bent over backwards and spread myself wide open I'm going to reply on here after looking at your emails. Thanks for sending me one so I could find you and know exactly who you are. I could not find anything by simply looking up "smith". I have exchanged 45 emails with you starting in 2015 when the 996 turbo was a twinkle in your eye. These emails were spread over a long period of time and all hours of the day and night mind you. Many of them the longest I've ever received with numbered questions longer and in more detail than average that I have ever received. I answered every single one and did my best to support you with pleasure. Then when you finally got the car I continued to support you and even helped you purchase overseas items and get them to you. I also see the email where I described to you that this could've been a glitch and what to do about it and that we would support you regardless including dealing with Cobb directly. At this point I am honestly sideswiped at how fast you would flip or turn on me after everything I tried to do to be supportive and even yet I apologize that you got frustrated. However, I will stand up for myself and say I really think you're out of line. I'm a little bit insulted but I'm glad I was able to help you as much as I did and I wish you the best of luck with whoever it is you're dealing with now a days. Perhaps in the future you'll realize the difference. I don't think you will be able to quantify or justify any legitimate loss that you've had because of your misunderstanding of my support. Nor the comments to you about it and what yo do but if you can I'll still stand behind them because that's how I do it.
...Oh and I would recommend checking our tank vent system.
Cheers

Thanks pal. These cars are getting older so there's lots of factors. Octane, fuel quality and tune up state I have a lot to do with it. If you guys go to stage zero and log you will find knock sums. In a lot of cases I've seen the OTS maps do it even less or not at all because of fueling being a little more on the rich side and lots of fine tuning to 4 different grades of fuel versus the factories one.

Glad to see that you brought your response publicly to the site.
For those reading this and have not done business with Sam, I can assure you he is an absolute gentleman. Always very responsive, easy to talk to and will work with you the best he can.
One must remember that dealing with problems that may occur whether it be via text, phone, email, video or any other source rather than hands on can be frustrating and very difficult. Not to mention not knowing the customers vehicle history and maintenance record.
Sam has always done right by me and hundreds of others who have Sambo tunes.
It's just impossible, no matter how hard you try, to satisfy 100% of the people 100% of the time. People are people !
I think with the amount of customers you have Sam, you have a damm good track record.
Sam,
you're the best there is in my opinion and I will tell anyone who asks me with pride who tunes my car. you can't please everybody. sorry to see this... you're reputation is flawless with everyone I speak with....
Chris.

Cheers all. We spoke on the phone and the best way I can put it is that some just interpret things differently. Things came across wrong maybe but I am sensitive to customer service and a break in communication/understanding/interpretation can leave room for drama sometimes I guess. Onward and upwards!
