Anyone pick up the Cobb Accessport for their 996TT?
Oh you will like it....it's really the last mod I did (months ago). So dialed in and now I just drive the car...
Yea, I don't get it. What is the possible gain of copying an earlier post and re-posting it? I could see if they had a link you could click, but they don't.
They DO have links to what I suspect is malicious content, always image files so I'm not positive. However shortly after posting them here they quickly edit their posts to remove the link. They're targeting those who receive email notifications from 6Speed not those that browse the site directly.
I have a lot of cars running around MAFless from 500-800hp that are amazing. The cool thing is you can try it and we can make you a map to go back to normal if you really wanted to. They've done a really good job with giving us a great tool to work with.
I'm keen to pick up a Cobb tuner, anyone know if it has a launch control function or brake boost similar to some other applications? Im not a drag racer anymore, but could be fun to have occasionally.
Dude, DO NOT pull your ECU. That is way old school and unnecessary. I don't know what you mean by "locking" it, but I bet that is unnecessary as well. No one, but the most high powered ultra-serious builds do any "hard wiring" in the ECU anymore.
Just call Sambo. He has nothing else to do this weekend anyways!!!

---- You may also hear the process of Flashing a DME referred to as “Chip” or “Chipping”, and that’s because the first generations of DME used ROM (Read Only Memory) chips that could not be re-programmed. Many “tuners” today still have to crack open the DME’s case and remove, re-flash, and re-solder the physical chip in Porsche models up to 2001.
Today, some very exclusive “tuners” with state-of-the-art computing hardware and software can now read and reprogram your car’s ECU without opening its case. It’s all done through the DME’s existing 88-pin connector, even on the first generation 986 (Boxster) and 996 (Carrera).-----
Does that apply to us or have other 2001s with stock ECU (i.e. no chip) been able to use the COBB AP no problem? Appreciate the info - this will help me decide which way to go with using the AP (i.e. once the chip is removed, am I still screwed?)
Unless you have a damned piggy backed chip like me. I can't wait to use the AP - I've had it for like 8 months... sitting... ugh. Speaking of getting it removed, I read that the 2001s ECU can't just be re-flashed easily:

yes, Accessport would reprogram your 2001 ECU via OBD port. No soldering or piggyback style device. Not sure about your existing tune, guessing it would erase it and program the cobb version over it.
As long as once I get that chip removed, the 2001 ECU can be written/re-written on then that's cool. Reading about the above quote I posted about older ECUs (up to 2001) requiring needing chips scared me. I.e. if I spend the $ to have something removed and I'm still stuck, that's no good - vs say buying a used ECU and swapping them...
