Posting here in the hopes that this thread stays active with real members reporting feedback about this product. The majority of the COBB threads seem to be vendor advertising, so hopefully more members can weigh in here, especially those with experience with more than one tune. For those in the business and not wanting to tarnish any one tuner product, feel free to PM me.

Recently picked one up for my car. Currently only using the OTS maps but the car feels great and runs very smoothly. It fixed some bugs from my really old Techart tune that the car had. Planning on getting some custom tuning done over the winter after some turbo upgrades. I really saw no reason not to go with the accessport considering a flash is normally $1500+ and the accessport is $900 and custom tuning runs around $500 and you get the unit that can log and display gauges. Im hoping that they release some updates with launch control here soon.

easy to use...i like the fact that i don't have to use durametric to log. I used to carry around a bulky laptop to log. You just need to press a button. I leave the 6 data screen on so i can check max boost afr timing right away. Tuningwise...i think all tunes are very similar for basic bolt ons...unless you go with an unknown company tune.

Does the AP support displaying wideband A/F on the display? Does the 996 platform have built in ability monitor wideband readings from stock O2s.

996tt fueling (just like 997.1/.2 and 991) is 100% closed loop and runs off the factory wideband o2s. Cobb AP reads that data over the CANBus (OBD2 port) and displays/logs it along with many other parameters.

Just FYI, if getting the Cobb AP through us we've got a package that includes our protune and lifetime tuner support that comes out better than buying the Cobb AP on its own and 500 for a protune and we're there to help review logs/adjust maps at any time after the initial tuning is done (e.g. trying different octane from initial tune, retuning for another bolt-on mod, etc). Let me know if any questions at all dzenno@protuningfreaks.com

Not sure if I missed this....is this incredibly cheaper than getting a tune from say EPL or Markski, etc? Not seeing the benefit of having this, esp if you can not tweak your settings, but then again 98% of this forum should not be playing with most settings anyway.

I am seeing these devices for around $900? and then a fee on top to tune? why not just go with Tony @ EPL once and be done?

I can only speak to our custom tuning on the Cobb AP. It comes with off the shelf tunes for 91 and 93 octane on the 996 for Stage 1 and Stage 2 type modifications which covers stock to full bolt-on configuration basically on stock turbos.

Cobb AP allows you to datalog many running parameters and either review them yourself and/or, if you have tuner support like in our case, we'd review the logs for you and turn around revisions over email to get the tuning tailored to your specific octane, ambients and mod configuration.

Not having to carry a laptop and use it for logging in the car on the seat next to you and instead using the AP is also nice.

Tuning wise Cobb AP has a unique feature not available through Durametric logs which allows you to log/monitor per cylinder timing corrections (knock) on all 6 cylinders individually along with Target vs. Actual ignition timing. You don't need to guess what your timing curve should look like vs. how much of it is knocking for a given load vs. RPM range. Durametric allows logging of cylinder 1 actual ignition timing. If you'd like to venture into tuning your 996 yourself you can get the ATR software from Cobb as well:

Lastly, if you ever decide to move on to a different car or try a different tune the Cobb AP device can be resold fairly easily while flashed DME tunes go with the car or are reverted back to factory tuning.

This is a big deal. It means you can buy a Cobb AP for $900 and then re-sell it for probably $700-$800 in the future when you sell your car. By far the cheapest solution to flash your car when you consider the re-sell value.

I bought a cobb and am running stage 2 currently. Wakes the car up a lot.

Thing about the cobb is its features and support. I came from the sti world and own a very very heavily modded sti as well and have been a cobb fan for years. The new V3 is awesome. Data logging, guages, diagnosis, tuning, etc. So much stuff you can do with it for the price and to retune it's simple. Anyone with a protuned license can tune it. Also again then you can sell it or transfer if you buy a different car.
If you have problems, you can call cobb and they are all over it, any problem is resolved right away and they are super friendly.
Personally I think overall is the best consumer tuning product on the market currently

Glad to hear you guys are having a blast with the off the shelf maps from Cobb. They're great out of the box performers indeed and have gone through rigorous testing through development. Let me know if any other questions at all or if you decide to try a bit of custom tuning down the road with a different set of mods (larger turbos, injectors, intakes, MAF-x, etc) that off the shelf maps aren't suited for.

I believe I'm having smog issues (catalytic converter monitor not set) with my current tune and I'm considering the Accessport. I have an unknown tune for my early gen A28 setup.

Does the accessport have an OTS map that is effectively a stock map I can flash my car with for smog?

Do the OTS maps, and maps provided by tuners, support full emissions monitors such that I can pass smog in the future?

I'm thinking about taking this opportunity to upgrade my setup to injectors (from current 5 bar fpr setup)... any good tuners out there have good tunes for my "GT650" GT2860rs turbo setup?

price wise cobb is inline with other tunes...benefit is that you can resell the unit whereas any other tune you can't recoup that cost
I hate carrying around my heavy laptop and durametric to log
Cobb you press a button and it logs everything...you can monitor max boost you hit during a pull etc etc

I have a Cobb v3 that I had on my GTR. Uninstalled it when I sold the GTR. Can i reflash the unit to work with the 996tt? Or do I have to sell the GTR unit and buy an identical piece of hardware with new software on it for the 996TT?
