Tial alpha series 3071
83lbs injectors
5bar
EPL tune
Water/Meth
Cargraphics Exhaust
Stock internals, stock ICs, stock inlets, etc.

Peak power on the dyno was 724awhp/776ftlbs which if i recall correctly was 1.5-6 bar and had a mix of 93 and 109 in the tank.

I've probably put >35k miles on the car and probably 15-20 track days. No issues.
this happened shortly before i took my car to tony years ago and i was inspired by your dyno but Tony basically told me when i got there that the power level you are at will bend rods.

i tend to agree with that statement after 5-6 years around these cars i think he was and is correct.

Yes, stock ECU. I do not own a v-box, but if I log it I will certainly post the data.

Thx guys... I am going to take the car to Tim next week, flip a coin and either do this (3076 alphas etc) or a basic rods n sods until I sort out my fecking IRS and other problem.

So are you guys saying its the Det that really bends rods? Im just about to fit some 3076's and will certainly tune out boost and timing in the lower rpm's and gears but never dreamed of trying a tune on E85, I think our fuel maybe better than the stuff you guys get, I run a 99 octane but I think our fuels are rated diff to yours.

Our fuel is RON + MON /2. Yours is rated just using RON. Which is a much easier test and nets higher octane numbers.

Just not too sure how far to go mapping wise, I had in mind 1.5 bar max boost but as I can do in gear boost go like 1st 1bar, 2nd 1.1 bar, 3rd 1.3 bar 4/5/6 1.5 bar building a spare motor over winter with Carrillos and ARP studs, flowed heads and GT3 exhaust cams, all balanced and prob 3.8, just need the $$$ to build a gearbox to take advantage of it.

Tim is mega busy so I am doing a basic engine build after the summer season and will do that before adding any turbos... I think with my proclivity to drive cars very hard even in the extreme cold may lead to a certain rod failure or 3. This past winter in 35-40F temps my calculated engine torque was as high as 810 lbs-ft

heck yea detonation can bend rods. Then eat pistons, rings and BOOM.

Too much tqe can also bend rods as well. You can still have good tune and weak rods, you just hope they bend before they break.

How's jet pump arm fuel pump system doing btw? I ended up doing mine that way too.

Detonation can do many wonderful things to internals on the motor and much sooner than just pure torque that people mention as limits. Cylinder pressures during detonation/knock are significantly higher than in a motor that doesn't knock. In other words, you may have a motor with half the torque throw a rod if it ran with inadequate octane for its tuning/hardware or due to a bad injector or a heat spot forming inside the combustion chamber.

Outside of just purely dyno testing and tuning for minimal knock I don't believe that anyone here has done enough instrumentation with the internals and checking the motor internals over time with a given "proper tune" to know well enough where the torque limit really is as its VERY hard to do and very time consuming as it isn't something that can be covered in a day or a few days on the dyno. There are established guidelines as to where the stock motor internals lie based on when they showed fatigue/bending but given how much octane can vary, how different tuning can be, how different run conditions the motors are exposed to can be, its next to impossible to know those limits unfortunately.

All you can do at the end of the day is be reasonable on the stock motor, ensure you have a great tune that doesn't knock and provides for consistent power on octane you're using and hope for the best. Building internals doesn't negate the need for monitoring/failsafes. In fact the harder you push, built or not, the more failsafes and monitoring must be in place to make things function reliably and live long happy lives outside your neighbourhood indy shop

Hey dude the fuel system is holding up great, never runs low on fuel flow even under 1/4 tank.

ARP studs dont' do well if not installed correctly.

Is there a secret method of installing them? Do you mean install by measuring stretch as opposed to just torqueing up?

Would you sell the ARP and go for the EVOMS? What are the ARP rated to?
