New clutch
Hello peeps
I'm in need of a new clutch for my tt and I was wondering what clutch to buy and where to buy it.
I'm currently in a tuned car so I'm looking for something stronger then OEM.
I want the car do be drivable in dailylife, so no on/off clutch
In the pricerange I'm looking for under 2000$?
FVD has dealer in Norway, prices outside Norway are most likely +27% VAT
I got a price from the local Porsche workshop, and they wanted 2500$ to change it. That NOT including parts.

it all depends on your driving style. a 1000 ft/lb clutch won't last if you have a habit of driving with your foot on the clutch peddle or drag the clutch at lights. if your power level won't increase then a sachs will likely work

exactly right, or the consideration of future power goals has to factor. in which case it might well be better to go at least next level up to sachs 2.5, if added power above 575whp is in your future. but also explaining why my clutch could well outlive me since i'm not adding anything that'll affect my clutch usage! i dont slip it, i dbl clutch when possible ( old habits die hard ) and use it to shift, very smoothly.
though i'm reluctant to even say things like that in here. things change so quickly, vis a vis members here one day, and gone the next.

labor for a clutch should be no more than $1000, if everything goes smooth, maybe 1200. takes entire day to do it. better find some good indy shop that does work on Porsche's. Local dealer will drain your wallet.
I'm on Fx250 Clutchmaster with CM light flywheel clutch was like $2000 and flywheel $1000, something like that
(if you dont mind chatter sound and whine), I do not recommend for daily commute. because that sucker grabs lol.
stay away from OEM clutch. like krazy said, get a clutch that fits you, if you drag or road race. we have so many threads here.

3-4 hours tops! or someone is taking a siesta on your dime(s)! lol
what is your objection to using an oem sachs with a gt2 disc? i'm btw 575/600 rwhp rwd. no slippage ever.
folks underestimate the capacity of oem parts, all the time.

'02996ttx50, so you are currently running oem sachs clutch + gt2 disc?
Is this a straight swap with nothing else needed? How long have you been running that combo? Do you have the part numbers handy by chance??
Thanks!!

about two years now. same as was in before. but I'm not hard on a clutch. i use it to shift gears only, and I'm not trying to be "cute". i learned early on a clutch was not be slipped and i don't believe in drag racing or "launching", as i find it borders on sacrilege. it's a porsche. not a corvette, camaro or 427 cobra.
i have an oem replacement clutch ( search pelican parts for oem sachs and the gt2 disc ) with a gt2 disc is all, and i have 575/600 rwhp. no issues. no muss no fuss though the clutch fork is just as much a pita to re-install no matter what one uses lol
cost me about a grand maybe 1100? plus 3 hours labor not counting 3 attempts to get the clutch fork to line up ( arghh lol )

OP, I have read lots of good things about this kit:

no. 16/24's and a 5 bar. I'm sure I'm closer to 575 rwhp, but i vacillate btw estimating it at 575-600whp depending upon how much I've had to drink.

The OEM GT2 disc is the same exact organic friction material as the stock 996TT disc, except that the TT disc has a sprung hub while the GT2 is solid. The OEM pressure plate is the same for both TT/GT2. As such, the OEM GT2 clutch package will hold the same amount of torque as the stock TT clutch and should not be considered an upgrade.
If you want an upgrade, get the Sachs 764 Motorsport pressure plate with a clutch disc appropriate to the flywheel you're using. If you're running a LWFW, get the OEM GT3RS 4.0 disc. I have this and it holds 670 ft.lbs of torque at the wheels (verified on a Dynojet). Torque, not HP is what you need to be concerned with.

well, that's contrary to the guys that have steered this car and it's components since it's been around, as i was told the gt2 disc is "tougher" for lack of a better term and would suit my needs.. all i know is i've never had an issue with it, but as i've said, i don't "abuse" it. i also figured if it was good enough for the gt2, it is and has been good enough for me.
must be a terrific solid hub.
