Nuts for modding the TT before owning one?

I'm about 4-8 months away from buying the TT but the mod bug has already hit me. I check various classified every now and then to see if there are any used parts I want. For example, I just bought the EP stage 2 loud exhaust. I'm a sucker for good deals and finding the exact used part I want may take a while. The next thing is rims...more specifically the HRE 542R's. My logic is that if i find a used aftermarket part for a good price I would buy it and if for some reason I don't buy the TT, I could turn it around for a minimal loss. Does this make sense?

If you know you're getting one then it really doesn't matter.

Not sure why you are waiting 4-8 months. If I had a choice of spending money on buying parts or buying the car, I'd do the latter.

I do it all the time with all my cars. I still have some parts lying around to which the car were not purchased

One thing though.. Never hold onto things too long. Styles change and get outdated quicker that you'd think.

Search for the user Colorchange.

Tim had almost every conceivable aftermarket part for his car before he got it.

It was hysterical.

What you're doing sounds reasonable to me. If you know you're getting the car, and a great deal on a part comes up, why not take advantage of it. I didn't buy any parts before I got my turbo but I certainly did a lot of window shopping.

Modding TT

Engine mods are well established for this car and will make a substantial difference in performance. I'd agree with previous posts that if you know for sure that you're getting it, go for it. Difficult to go wrong if you go with the established tuners on this board. If you consider approaching 700hp or beyond, strengthen the internals. Have fun.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not alone here. I've been modifying cars ever since I could drive one. From a few memorable street races to my car catching on fire, it's been quite the experience. I just hope the anticipation is not better than the actual experience of owning a turbo.

Yes (you're nuts!) . Your situation might change and you'll be left with a part for car you don't own. Be patient.

Howdy!

I'm doing the same thing myself (looking/buying 996/TT parts without owning one yet). Figured if the deal is amazing why not? I'm 99.9% sure of buying a TT, so the only thing that might happen to me is I find a "pre-modded" car and have redundant parts that I have to sell.

I did the same thing on a couple of other cars - even my current Z06 that I was sure I was going to sell, I kept buying parts, *just* in case I didn't. Well, I made the commitment to sell and the parts were at such a great price, I broke even! (Almost couldn't resist this set of 19/20" IForged I had in the boxes, but I know used wheels take a big hit so I managed to sell them - hell, even the wifey was wanting me to put em on )

Plus, you can set all your parts in the garage in a sort of car configuration, sit in the middle and make vroom-vroom sounds like you actually have it....
