The actual weight of the 996TT...
I've read some threads that state the 2001 model year was lighter than the rest. 3,395 lbs for 2001 compared to 3,505 for newer year coupes.
I realize the glovebox and some other small items were not available on the '01's but they don't seem like items that could possibly add 110 lbs.
I also read that some people claim 3,395 is the "dry" weight for the car and 3,505 is the "wet" weight. But the fuel alone weighs 110 lbs. If the weight given for the 2001 cars was truly a "dry" weight (meaning zero fluids in the car) you'd be looking at a difference much greater than 110 lbs. More like 200 lbs or more.
So has anyone ever gotten the final answer on this one? Do the 2001's truly weigh 110 lbs less or not?
FWIW...I weighed my car (lightly optioned 6-MT Coupe with sunroof) on a certified and calibrated truck scale recently and it weighed 3,390 lbs with 5 gallons of fuel (i.e. "Unladen"). It has roughly 80 lbs of weight reducing mods installed....but I'm also running wider HRE 545's and larger tires so that adds some weight as well.

My 2002 owner's manual lists my Turbo at 3395 lbs "empty weight"...same as an '01.
My '02 with a full tank of gas, sunroof delete, floor mats, power lumbar both seats (my only options), and no occupants weighs 3480 lbs (weighed on four pad scales good to .025% accuracy).

Okay...so I had 80 lbs less fuel weight, 80 lbs less weight from mods. But I have to add 40 lbs more weight for my sunroof...plus some weight for my power/heated seats (not sure how much that is...maybe 20 lbs?).
So taking those things into consideration, that puts us within 10 lbs of each other.

! VERY funny-Albeit awefully interesting when you consider the lightest 996's weigh in at 2540!
I can tell u; a truly lightweight Turbo (RS) without traction control and running 1 bar boost. No mods (OK..bilsteins) and some Michelins
is a KICKASS piece of equipment!
