Functional Front Aero?

What are the options for front aero on our cars that actually work? I have a standard turbo front bumper and am considering a splitter of some sort?
What is everyone running that track these?
Thanks

GT2 front or RUF front, canards/dive planes, splitter. Anything else would be something you custom make. Joe Toth Composites has dive planes and a nice splitter.

I've spoken with pwdrhound who has the massive cup wing in back and RUF front with dive planes and he says it is aero balanced so that setup works for sure.

Thanks a lot - yea I have seen his front end in pics as well. I have an OEM GT2 rear wing - would like to do something up front. I wonder what "custom" would entail

In order to have good functional aero you need to get the proper ducting to vent the center radiator air up over the hood of the car as is done on the GT2 and RUF bumpers. All else is cars and coffee fluff. Your ducting needs to be sealed for max efficiency. Get rid of all the gaps. The radiator must be canted forward as is done on all Cup cars. If using the GT2 or RUF bumper, I would also add Joe's dive planes. They work. The RUF bumper has an effective splitter built in already. I using the GT2 bumper, I would add Joe's removable splitter to it.

Additionally, make sure your car has about 20mm of rake in the chassis. This helps a lot.

Always insightful - few questions
- do the rep GT2 bumpers have the ducting you talk about?
- canting the rad forward? not familiar with this

Thanks

Like said with the gt2 or ruf front. The rest, hit up joe toth. I have canards on my car and my splitter should be here next week or the following from joe.

For the rear, i have been talking to joe and I'll be sending him my gt2 blade this winter to design a wicker/gurney fir that. We are also trying to find a car close to him to design a new 996tt diffuser. It won't add much df but mostly reduce drag under the car and look nice.

As for rack, that is simply setting up the car lower in the front than the rear. Changes how the air flows over the car and creates more df on the front of the car.

In reference to the rep gt2 bumpers. I dont believe any of them come with proper ducting. I think it might be possible to properly fit a rep gt2 bumper but it would take quite a bit of money to do it with oem gt2 parts. There is a thread somewhere with all the Porsche part numbers needed as well as pics and instructions to do a full gt2 front conversion but it added up to quite a bit of coin in just parts not even counting the genuine gt2 bumper that was used. For some reason $8k seems to stick in my head, i will look for the thread and post a link.

I think the Ruf bumper is a far better route at $3.5k it might seem like a lot but it is totally complete and fully functional. Beautiful piece in my opinion.

I have an aftermarket gt2 bumper thay was on the car when I bought it. You Dont have to have every little piece to make its fully functional listed in the other post. If you do a little redneck garage tech you can make it all work for less. I redid some of my stuff and got it all sealed up better than it was before.

Cheap improvement is the aero lip. It does create downforce. Way better as the standard turbo lip.

Thumbs up

Makes sense, any pics of the setup by any chance? It shouldn't be too difficult to come up with something. If im not mistaken the Ruf bumper comes with everything you need but it really isnt that many parts.

Were you able to tilt the radiator so that the air comes in and goes up and out the vent on the top of the bumper? And were you able to direct the air just through the radiator?

It would be great if someone would come up with a kit that contained the parts to make the aftermarket gt2 bumpers fully functional. Doesn't have to be porsche parts just high quality pieces that would make the bumper work right. I haven't had one apart yet but i think the gt2 bumper offers brake cooling as well but i think most folks would settle for the radiator / top vent being fully functional as it should reduce lift a lot.

its all factory parts.i have a 4 page parts list from suncoast when i bought the parts. what many dont realize is each radiator has 2 different ducts that connect everything to the bumper. each piece is about 300$ so x that by 3 and you have 1800$ in just plastic ducting. add 2 more fender well liners on each side at 200$+ and thats another 800$ add brake ducting since the brackets are no longer cooled by the fenderwell vents .thats another 200$ so just in plastic alone you will have about $2800 invested. add water lines and if you must have the proper brackets for the center radiator they are another 800$

its a package that works very well when used as a package. if you keep turbo parts and mix up the gt2 with it the aero may suffer. and the side radiator ducting from the turbo doesnt line up with the gt2 bumper so mods are needed. also the 2 spacers for the bumper guard allow the tow hook to be installed. if you dont use them the hook goes in to far and hits the bumper. they are 90$ . its all this stuff that adds up quickly. and finally virtually none of the plastics are in the states. i waited 6 weeks to get mine from germany

Yeah, I had researched it a while back since in my imagination I always wanted to have that gt2 bumper and wing on the car. But when I realized how much work and $ it would be to do the fully functional conversion I gave up on the idea. Then pwrdhound pointed me to the Ruf bumper and I was pretty much sold on that option. For the money I dont think it can be beat. And from my understanding fit and finish is spot on which in itself saves more work and $.

32krazy, have you already done the full conversion or are you still gathering parts?
