Nurburgring trip - any advice?
Nurburgring trip - any advice?
Gotta do a last minute trip to Europe for a few weeks and will be in DE for a few days. Gonna add a day to make it down to the Nurburgring (was hoping to knock out my top 3 bucket list items this year, running of the bulls fell through so at least I'll get 2)
Any advice? Will need to rent a car, etc. how busy are Saturdays?

perfecct place for this!! if its within the budget rent a porsche ! any will do if it were me i would try to get a cayman. video video video! and most importantly be safe! this place bites and bites hard!
Be aware any rental car insurance specifically prohibits using the car at the ring so be prepared to stroke a check if anything arises. I wanna say they have some type of license plate camera system that automatically records/reports all cars entering the track. I would go through one of the companies that specifically do track rentals at the ring.
I've been told by people in the know to use http://www.rent4ring.de/en/ and get something slower than you think is needed... you'll still have a ball.
Supposedly their Swift rentals are a good time.

Yea, ironically got an email from a friend yesterday telling me he was there and did a swift rental and had a blast.
Just got thrown a curve ball by finding out the days i'm suppose to be close they are closed to the public, currently trying to change my schedule around.
Closed to the public? Might get a glimpse of something awesome being tested by a manufacturer... Maybe new GT2RS..? That'd be pretty sweet to see blasting around.

Make it back in one piece. :-). Take it easy. It's a tricky track. Very long full of blind crests followed by offcamber drop curves. And it's fast. There are sections I've topped 289 km/h. Impossible to remember all technicalities without 50+ laps behind your belt. So take it easy. Enjoy and drive quick versus all out ***** blazing. Ps. Watch out for pro's in your rear view mirror. They are stupendously fast. Have fun. Report back.

I have done 200+ laps on the ring and my 1st advise would be to go slow as there are turns that are 100% unforgiving. Tire pressures are also very important to keep monitoring as 1 lap is 20.8 km (12.9 mi) is like doing 10 laps at your local average track. Also keep an eye at the fuel gauge as track recovery is expensive. Do NOT rent cars from mainstream firms like Avis and Hertz as the insurance does not cover driving on the ring. www.rentracecar.de/en/ www.rent4ring.de/en/ Check opening hours and wear a helmet!

great advice, will let you guys know how it goes!
I used rent4ring and did their 4 lap package (also took an extra lap) 2 years ago in their stage 2 suzuki swift, think it ended up being about $500. It was a blast! I've done a handful of DE's in the states all in 400+ HP cars and thought the suzuki would be undewhelming but honestly it was as fast of a car I would want going around the ring. The car's interior is stripped and the rollbar/suspension/brakes making it a go cart, I was able to get it up to 200km/h. Rent4ring was also good about showing a video beforehand and telling you how to be safe on the track, particular areas and how to drive them (ie. the carousel), and have helmets you can use. Get that schedule switched and have fun!
