BBi slave upgrade
BBi slave upgrade
I've heard through a few people that there have been some failures with the BBI slave upgrade. Does anyone have one and have problems? I'm considering this vs a gt2 slave conversion. My local shop has never done the conversion, so I was thinking BBi would be the easier install... but I don't want to do it twice!
the conversion is super easy. theres a couple threads on here to walk them thru it. most important thing is to fully flush the system before installing the new master cylinder in the cabin. the drilling and clearancing is a 2 on a 10 scale
if you want a pump that been converted already i have one

MY Indi hadn't done one before either... I gave him the link to one of the DIYs here and I gave him all the parts he was going to need. He said everything went together quite easily. It has been working great ever since. That was a couple of years ago and no issues.
the stock bellhousing already has the bosses cast for the studs for the gt2 slave. its a simple matter of poping the slave rod out set the slave on the flat surface and mark the holes. drill into the bosses and tap and install studs. then center between them and drill a 3/4" hole. slide the new clutch fork in pace and see if hits inside the bellhousing. if it does take a dremel and clearance whats needed. for the trans thats it. remove the coupler from the p/s pump and cap the lines and remove and swap the master cylinder after a complete flush. replace the clutch fluid line with a gt2 line and basically your done
The bbi slave unit is the best option if you are not removing the trans for a new clutch. super quick and easy to do. If you are removing the trans though, the oem gt2 slave conversion is the best option. it does require some work but anyone with general mechanical abilities and have your normal shop tools can do it.
I have that whine that develops in the power steering reservoir. If I cut the lines going to the slave because of the gt2 conversion, will the whine go away? Or do i need to buy the updated reservoir (and get the gt2 one so I can eliminate the lines completely)
I had a new BBi slave and new power steering reservoir installed in my car about three weeks ago. The BBi slave is a huge improvement over the stock unit and has much better pedal feel.
I don't think cutting the lines will alleviate the whine from the PS. I think you'll need to replace the reservoir with the updated 997 version to solve it.

or just press on the clutch!
that has been my go-to fix. However after the gt2 mod, the clutch is no longer connected to the power steering pump/reservoir in any way... so will the whine become constant?
You need to remove the coupler in the power steering pump that runs the part that goes to the clutch slave if doing the gt2 slave. then tap the line hole on the reservoir and put a plug in it
I get what you are saying. But since I don't know what causes the whine, I don't know if removing the coupler will remove the whine, I thought it had something to do with a faulty valve in the reservoir.

but yeah, unfortunately i think it'll still whine even after you slave delete. but i cant say for certain as the only time my previous car did this, i had it replaced under warranty at the dealer and I've never run without the stock setup.
i think it will still whine ( once it hits that magic temp ) as its a feature of the valve in the ps res pump. dont think it has much if anything to do w the clutch hydraulics though? but it does, as we both know, subside once the clutch is engaged.
again.. good question lol

again, its a valve inside the ps res pump that once it hits a certain hi temp, it resonates like a friggin tea kettle lol
