PSM & ABS Failure?

Over the last few weeks I have been getting PSM & ABS Failure during hard cornering or in the wet I when the wheels slip at all. The systems completely shut down and are only reset when I restart the car.

I plan to take it to my mechanic but was curious if anyone knew what the problem is b/f I take it in. I was thinking there must be a sensor or something that is turning the systems off when any wheel slip is indicated.

TIA,
Adam

Ruiner is infamous around these parts
Are you chipped or do you have the stock ECU? (just trying to eliminate variables)

A bad or failing MAF will throw the ABS/PSM codes, but if you ONLY get the error when you are cornering, then that probably rules out the MAF.

do a search. i remember there was a thread about it. if the light only comes on when u do hard cornering or wet then u don't need to worry too much. it happened often in my GT3 when one or more tires break loose when braking. it reset itself like u said.

O.K. Thanks guys. I'll do a search. BTW, my car is 100% stock and it really only happens when the tires slip.

I had to drive it for a short distance a few weeks back with about an inch of snow and it happened at slow startup in 1st gear too.

Thanks again,

Adam

Interesting. I can't imagine them coming on and staying on. That signifies a fault in the system if I was to take a guess. I mean, I can corner, throw my PSM light on as it tries to gain traction, but it will turn off once I gain traction again. Having the lights stay on even after you regain traction signifies a fault. It should not do that.

Ruiner:

Thanks. I think there is a fault as well. Maybe a bad sensor somewhere??? I'll do a forum search and see if anyone else has had this issue.

BBB:

No sorry different guy. I have had a few BMW's but never a 540.

I did a search and found quite abit of info. I love this place! My guess is either a bad MAF or ABS sensor. I'll let my mechanic figure it out. Thanks all for your input.

I would say ABS. I pointed out that the MAF could be the cause, but you only get the lights when you corner. A MAF issue will throw a code no matter if you are cornering or going straight. It typically happens under hard acceleration (if the MAF is the issue), usually in a straight line.
