996TT vs. M6 video

I hope this isn't a repost. It was new for me and I usually stay pretty up to date. Surprising outcome. Enjoy.

Clearly the M6 beat the TT, but now that the M5+M6 are getting in the hands of stateside auto mags and they are being fully tested- the numbers they have been posting have been underwhelming. Most numbers I have seen put the M cars high 12's in the quarter with a few solid in the 12.5 range. Those numbers will not destroy a TT like the video. Makes for some interesting conspiracy theories anyway! Regardless, the M cars are fine examples of engineering. Kevin

I agree, the turbo driver doesn't seem to be the best driver. Here is a link to the video from the 996 turbo's perspective. 2:44 is where the fun starts. Tell me what you 996TT drivers think.

The 996TT is passe now. The 997TT needs to be factored in as the competitor. The result at least will be much more competitive.

The M6, like any other M car is not that great from a dig. When you get these cars up to speed is when they really pull. The engines are high reving, not high torque. Therefore they make power much higher. You would be suprised how "sneeky" fast these cars are.

i don't know how much M6 faster than M5. I've look thought many mag. Not much and mostly 0.1sec in 1/4miles. Never drove M6 but I've try many many times with M5 and 996TT. Death even under 200km/h and M5 slowly walk away after. But it can't be like the M6 killed the TT in that video.

The M6 has severl weight advantages over the M5, i think it is actually close to like 300-400 lbs. I assume the M5 that you drove was an E60, the newest one. Also it is very very hard to launch a SMG equipped BMW, that is why the cars are very close in their ET's

Yes, I've try E60 M5 with all the setting, p400, p500, p500 sport + S6. The launch control only at 1600rpm for north america M5. The runs we try were from 60km/h to 230km/h which should be the storngest part of the M5.

Kleiv, no one is insulting you or your vehicle- please do not take it as such. I know the M's are fantastic vehicles, kudos to BMW. The problem , or skepticism, many on this side of the pond have is the apparent difference in the times and videos from Europe. When the M's have been tested over here they have been underachievers, for whatever reason I do not know. Autoweek, tested the M5 and barely broke out of the 13's in the quarter and most auto mags have them solidly in the high 12's. A bone stock TT is a 12.2-12,4 vehicle depending on the review. I personally do not know how to account for a wide difference in reported times. Like I said previously, it sure makes for great conspiracy theories!! Take care, Kevin

Certainly not. I don't know the proper shift points on these cars and anyone owning a 996TT should know. I know the M6 is faster, I just didn't expect a gap that big. Please take no offense, I was just asking for others opinions on the driving. It looks like you guys had some fun out there
