Installing new turbos.

I am getting some new Stage IV Zero Clearance K16/K24 hybrids in a few weeks, and was wondering if they are something that I can install with the proper equipment and lift to use. I am sure they have to be properly torqued down, but is it pretty much an easy part to replace? Thanks for any info.

Oh baby...who's are they? You will need intake plenum and new programming as well. I would not DIY, but I'm basically mechanically incompetent. Good luck!!!

I don't think I'd do it myself, but after being under my car a few times it doesn't look to be that hard. You'll need the tools, torque wrench and tightening specs, and a good night's sleep at a Holiday Inn and I'm sure you'ld be fine!

They are Kevin's Hybrids. I already have the GIAC stage II and was told this is 100% compatible. Also, is the intake plenum really needed for this?

I believe the trick to turbo install is the proper oiling.
Priming them etc.,,?? I had mine (kevin's) on my 993tt installed
by someone who had done several.

If you are not a super stud mechanic why risk screwing up your car?
Leave it in the hands of a professional!

I would not do it myself.. .I watched a mechanic onece.. .then I did mine 3 times...
u will run into issues with tools... especially ont he drivers side... to taek off the oil lines is a *****... if u never did them...
it will taek u 4 hours to figure out that there is a screw inside the oil catch can... and u need a special tool that is extended and long to reach it...
again, if u never seen it done.. dont do it.
just my opinion.

I am told they are stage 4. Also was told that since they are k16/24 that the Giac II programming would be fine. I have no idea though. Unfortunately, I do not know of any dynos in my local area, but would like to do a before and after and see the difference. Hopefully will have the Turbos by mid June and installed shortly after.

They sound like stage 2 (Kevin's) are you sure they Z/C? Otherwise the same ones I am putting on...I gave up on the GIAC and went with Kevin's program as well...designed for his turbos! And yes you should do the intake plenum and 5bar FPR!

Stage IV??? Are you sure? Kevin made a custom set of turbos for Sharky a few years ago that he labeled "Stage IVs" (that is what Sharky was using in the first shootout). Although they performed well, Sharky was never able to get the programming sorted out for them. I think they ran very rich with the GIAC program he was using. I thought Kevin ceased making these turbos. Kevin's traditional K16/K24 hybrid is not the "Stage IV" turbo that Sharky once used. Moreover, Kevin's Stage V, which I previously used (great turbo), is a K16/K26 hybrid. Therefore, I don't think you are getting the "Stage IV" that Kevin previously made. On the other hand, if you are in fact getting the Stage IV, it is, in certain respects, superior to the other above-mentioned turbos. As I recall, Kevin used certain superior internal components that were not used on his other turbos.

Regardless, enjoy your new turbos!

Craig

The exact quote from the seller "stage IV zero clearance" and was also told "Utilizes a billet wheel, custom back plate and proprietary coatings along with modified wastegates. They are capable of flowing 600HP and perform well in many K24 applications. These turbos spool faster yet create as much if not more flow than a K24. These were dyno at 570 HP "

M3Cab,

you can get a dyno run out by Dulles at Currys Auto Service. They have a 4 wheel mustang dyno, and it'll probably run you about $100. As far as the turbos go, I would definitely have someone install them. You should ask around for the correct programming as well. Not something you want to just stick on like an exhaust.

btw - going down to florida this weekend to get my TT with the new wheels on. We'll have to hook up when I get back.
