Which session are you guys going to and from where are most of the guys coming? I would be interested in traveling to something with a group of cars.

Thank you. By the way 1700 - 1200 is 500 rwhp ;-)

What amazes me is that these 2000+ bhp cars can use 6 speed road going transmissions. Are they IRS cars? What kind of CV cage can hold that sort of power on a hard launch with 28" tall slicks? And what kind of stock coils can ignite enough fuel and air to make 2000 bhp?

These questions begged to be answered so all the Top Doorslammer and Pro Mod cars can stop using air shifted Lencos and start using Viper street trannies, and ditch their magentos and go to stock Viper coils .. oh and ditch their four link 9" rear ends and go with IRS.

That will happen when GM admits that a leaf spring in a Corvette is NOT the ideal suspension solution...

Yes they use a beefed up Tremec T-56 tranny, full 6 speed, stock gear ratios, no crazy sequential action. Look up G-force, they build most of them.

Yes they are IRS cars, using the stock case/housing and mount. As well as stock a-arms and spindles. The halfshafts and pinion yoke are replaced with mark williams stuff but thats about it. http://www.markwilliams.com/custom.aspx

The cars don't launch that hard. 1.2x 60ft from a 7.9x car isn't all that impressive. It's all in the mph on the top end.

Pro mod and such are running what, 6.0'x @ 230, making 4k hp on ALCH (which there is nearly twice as much of compared to gas), thats a far cry from a street legal 7 sec car. But yeah the stock viper coils (which are actually a single 6 and single 4 cylinder coil from a minivan) lite off these mega HP cars. The trannies don't last forever making runs like that but they do hold up for a while. I'd be willing to bet if you put a liberty and a solid axle/4 link under Garths car it would drop the better part of 3/4 of a second in the 1/4. It's a trade off for being able to comfortably drive the car on the street and actually downshift. As well as having a clutch you can use in traffic without killing your leg and not tearing the tires up running a spool on the street.

Your statement makes it seem like we're making up stories here? There are plenty of guys who have done it and proven it works. Looks like we have just figured out something you haven't.

That it does brutha, that it does.

I will be more than happy to bring my sled out and run it at some neutral territory. Will be heading to TX2K7 in March, will have to see if TWS is open for track days then.

Silver State is about as neutral as it gets and really shows who has the skill/*****. 90 miles of open 2 lane road to run as fast as you can. Puts the ultimate test to street cars, having to run @ 180+ average for that length of time, not overheat, not wreck it, and well have the brass to run through the canyons of the narrows at 140. And yes that means on the straights you're well into the 200 range to keep the average up. Many have said I might have a screw or two loose, but I don't lack the ***** or skill to run flat out.

here's to doing 210 with the top off and windows down in a Viper roadster.. just a nice sunday drive. The 10 second 80-210 run was fun too considering it was just a 4th to 5th pull.

Here comes the pain

Here's the link to the G Force offerring http://www.gforcetransmissions.com/tran_gt-56.asp

Rated at 900 bhp and 800 ft-lb so they won't alst long with 2000 bhp. Maybe they do some more heavy duty custom work, but like I said earlier, racecars don't use Lencos and the like robbing all that horsepower for no reason. That much power destroys transmissions.

Those Mark Williams pieces are awesome, that explains how the IRS lives. The CVJ and the cages are massive. Still it's a power of work to make an IRS live with 2,000 bhp.
The cars don't launch that hard. 1.2x 60ft from a 7.9x car isn't all that impressive. It's all in the mph on the top end.
Tough crowd! If I could get my street car to 60' in 1.2x I wouldn't be complaining! But yes, it's all in the top half of the track after the poor chassis gets a break.
Pro mod and such are running what, 6.0'x @ 230, making 4k hp on ALCH (which there is nearly twice as much of compared to gas), thats a far cry from a street legal 7 sec car.
If you say Pro Mod cars need 4000 bhp to run 230 MPH then that also explains something. I was forgetting the difference between US horsepower and the rest of the world (no offence meant - just different way to measure hp).
But yeah the stock viper coils (which are actually a single 6 and single 4 cylinder coil from a minivan) lite off these mega HP cars.
Then those guys known some engineering that I don't.
The trannies don't last forever making runs like that but they do hold up for a while. There's no doubt that these Vipers are running stout numbers. If you say they run 6 speed H pattern T56 trannies then I beleive it. I also agree that with a live axle, four link and a clutchless G Force or Liberty those ETs would tumble.
Your statement makes it seem like we're making up stories here? There are plenty of guys who have done it and proven it works. Looks like we have just figured out something you haven't.
No I think you are for real. I think it's all about the difference in how horsepower is measured around the world. There's one thing I am SURE of, and that is you guys have worked out how to do things I haven't. I'm falling in love with these TT Vipers .. just got to have one.

How does it work? Like Targa or Adelaide? Just various timed sessions? Are there stages? That does look like fun but that kind of racing is no joke, it seems the person with the biggest ***** wins. My kind of racing. What kinf of tires to guys use for this, something similar to nascar I suppose.

BTW I have been wanting to attend a TX2K event for a while so that doesnt sound like a bad idea, is TWS that new track, you arent talking about that Drag-O-Cross b.s from hennessey are you. It seems like it might be fun but, still.......

LOL i would assume alot LESS ***** considering half this board does it on public highways, street tires and any time of the day and in an uncontrolled environment LOL! But yea, running at these speeds controlled or not is no joke, scares me at the thought of a blowout or something minor that could mess EVERYTHING up!

This should be interesting as I will be at TX2K7 in the GT2....I think the roadracing will be held at MSR Houston/ drag racing in Sealy/and of course the night action.

no stages, leave in 30sec to 1min intervals. The lower classes have target average speeds to hit, with a max speed usually 10-15mph over the average. The winners are within a second of the set time over the 90 miles so it's pretty serious racing. And it is all about car setup, you can't just take anything out there and run at the speeds the higher classes achieve. ***** alone won't get you a 180 average, you have to have the car and skill to handle it at that speed. It's NOT just a straight road through the desert, there are serious elevation changes and some pretty hard core corners.

The record average is just under 208mph

Chris- I wish that was my F40. It's Rick Doria's car, if you're from the SoCal area i'm sure you know him as he frequents quite a few events down here and lives in OC.
