front drop links for GT-3 sway?
front drop links for GT-3 sway?
Just talked to S Car Go. I have tt and was sold GT-3 adjustable sways that can't adjust b/c of the AWD (thanks to ByDesign). The guys at S Car Go can sell me a set of drop link adapters to make 3 of the four positions usable. Is $450 too much for these and does anyone else have experience with this problem-proposed solution. Thanks
Is it worth paying ~550 for GT3 sways plus 450 for these drop link "adaptors" when you can get a set of H&R adjustable sways for about the same price as just the GT3 sways? Can anyone chime in on the difference? cjv?
limitup,
I went with the GT3 RS sway bar because is was designed by Porsche for their race cars. I originally had a concern because the turbo is a heavier platform and I was not sure if the GT3 RS would be sufficient. I can say it never really worked properly until Scargo Racing made some front drop links that addressed the turbo front axle problem.
I do not know anything about the H&R unit. I would start by comparing, weight, thickness of bar, amount of adjustment and matererials used. That would be a start. You would be surprised at the common sense things a comparison will reveal. I would not pay much attention to what others say. The reason being, most of the time you do not know what else was modified in addition to the sway bars along with what setting was used front and rear. The sway bars are a tool in adjusting understeer/oversteer. Most people simply guess regarding their settings. To properly set up a car requires time, money and live testing using the type of turns you desire the car to excell in.

I recently installed a set of front/rear GT-3 Sway Bars from Racer's Group. It came with drop links for the front which placed the bar behind the front axle. You may want to call them and ask if their drop links will fit your bars. Their front bars are $600 and with the drop links.

Cary, why are you always so modest?
Just sell him some of your custom links, will ya?
Some people know suspension engineering, and the vast majority don't. You are the expert, so the best advice is to save time and energy by going to the best.

james,
I had the problem about three years ago when TRG installed my GT3 RS sway bars. The drop link would rub and score the front axles on lock to lock turns. S Car Go Racing came up with a solution. The solution is a set of drop links that are offset or formed at the threaded turnbuckle. Since that time I have heard others have resolved the problem also. I have not seen any pictures as to how they accomplished this.

Tyson.... shhhhhhh... That's a secret. The fact is I make parts for lots of the shops talked about on the board. I try really hard not to push one over the other and I don't sell directly to end users because of a conflict of interest. I'm on here talking with end users as much as I can though to get direct feed back and even eat some crow on occasion
Chad, when TRG discovered the problem some time ago and have been overing a curved link to clear the axle for some time now. I also know they are looking for a better solution still.

thanks so much for all of the input. I got the GT-3 sway bars almost a year ago. They have been in the box almost all of that time except for the three trips to the dealer and lots of attempted problem solving. I didn't send them back b/c I was so frustrated with the vendor I did not want the headache anymore. However, the advice with S Car Go resulted in purchasing the drop links and I am extremely satisfied with the results as well as the quality of the product. I did not look into or know about other options and wanted to stick with OEM as much as possible rather than switch bars altogether. Thanks again for everyone's help. I would be happy to post pictures but I don't know how.
To a big degree a ARB is an ARB. Of course the size matters and even though we usually want the bars made from 4130 with a Rockwell from 34 to 38. Mild steel bars will still work almost as well because a bar is only used for degrees of twist no load. However, the mild steel will fatigue sooner and the yields quicker.
For a street car I tend to go with fairly large ARB’s and lighter on the springs to keep the ride more comfortable. On the race track, I go with stiffer springs and smaller ARB’s. I find that most club racer’s over ARB their cars significantly. The other important part is how they are mounted, both the bar to the chassis and the drop links. I like bladed bar’s even though that is like getting in the argument about 1018/25 roll cages vs 4130, there are arguments to support both.

I'm looking at the GT3 sways too ... but I'm actually leaning towards just doing the rear. The rear bar is a piece of cake to install, and the whole purpose is to get rid of the understeer in which case why do you even want to mess with the front bar? Not to mention you'll save a bunch of cash and hassle by not having to buy the front bar and droplinks. I mean, on a race car I guess you want as much adjustability as possible, but on a street car with occasional track events it seems like just doing the rear bar is the way to go. Plusyou can always do the front later if you wanted, but I really doubt that 95% of us even need anything other than the stock front bar. Anyone have any input on this? Does anywhere sell just the rear bar or do you have to buy the pair?

Limitup,
Did you get an answer to your question in this thread? If so, where did you buy your rear GT-3 bar? Have you already installed it?
BTW, I see you're from Denton County, TX, I'm in Highland Village.
Small world.
