996tt Under $50k on Ebay

This is at least the second time I have seen this car on ebay auction. Both times with a buy it now price under $50,000. Yet it didn't sell.

Anyone know this car or can tell me why it's not selling.

Sure it has over 80,000 miles, but it's still cheap.

Granted, that's a lot of miles for many cars, but shouldn't a 996tt be able to handle a lot more than that? And if not, wouldn't it make a great candidate for a rebuild/hot rod project car?

I'm a bit confused. I read how bulletproof these cars and how they will hold up for serious miles. But when one shows high miles people seem to be worried about buying it. Can someone please enlighten me?

We all want one that is as close to new as possible. A car is not about the engine only. This car has a worn interior, 80K mles worth of stone chips and maybe repaints, the rubber is hardening. Every part on this car is worn 5x more than my car at 17K miles. Maybe that's not logical, I think most people would rather spend another 10-20k and get a truely mint copy.

Most of us bought this car because it was our childhood dream. Why marry a cute 50 year old MILF with 6 kids when you can have her at 25?

Because a lower mileage car is almost always better. There are too many 996TT's available to settle for a car with 80k, whether it's in great condition or not. I know I wouldn't purchase it, even if $50k was all that I could afford.

I was going to start looking for a DD, one I can put a lot of miles on. I never thought it might be another turbo.

It's funny because the CarFax report shows 80,845 miles in 2004 , and now in 2007 ! it has only 82500 miles. I wonder why it did all those miles from 2001 to 2004 and suddently stopped.

A friend of mine just got a pristine 02' red 996TT all original
with 13K miles delivered for $63,000.
Why not start with something nice... for a few more $
and go from there?

For a little less money 42-45k that would be a great candidate for an all out drag car..........hmmmm.............strip it(sell off all the parts) ,6point cage, rwd, skinnies,Motec, and a motor that can easily handle more than 30lbs of boost.....Todd Z you listening?OMG my wife will kill me!

I like how the seller states it is the "cleanest 01 for sale on Ebay". LOL what a joker.
Perhaps the cleanest with 80,000+ miles.

That car would a great base in which to mod. First fix everything that MAY need to be tended to. Replace or respray the bumper, throw on a GT2 wing w/ cf blade, powdercoat the wheels black, replace the seats with a nice street and DE compromise; than do engine stuff-- the Turbos will probably need some work, so replace them (perhaps with something more aggressive). The end result would be great, DV valves, etc. The big time engine parts will still be fine.

Porsches can go for a REALLY long time. My dad put 150k+ on one of his 911's, and they weren't what they are today.

EDIT: I <3 Ghostrider's avatar.

Ya, my buddy paid $71k for his '01 2 months ago. But it only had one owner and 7k miles. It's absolutely flawless.

It's getting the VRalexander treatment from Todd K. very soon...but he wanted the interior, paint, and all other highly wearable components as new as possible.
