Straight pipe help...

Ok, so I want to put straight pipes on my car to **** off my neighbors even more.

Should I go with the Fabspeed racing cats and straight pipes or is there a better cheaper solution?

Thanks!

Go with the FVD straight pipes. Your factory tips fit directly on them. the cats are a waste of money unless you need them for emission inspection. This is way more cost effective, like one third the price.
I have ran both set ups and they sound about the same.
Your ecu flash has to accomadate the loss of the cats.
I can get my car out of the neighborhood driving slowly and short shifting (kinda like a no wake zone) with no complaints.
At the track the car screams!!!!

Tom-

Is the ECU flash necessary for the car to run right, or only if you don't like looking at the check engine light? I have the FVD straight pipes sitting in my garage...but I need another car to put them on!

the catless straight pipes are a lil louder, but at that point your already past the **** your neighbor off point anyways!

i would think the cats do help with the smell... it does sound so good tho...

I had them on my GT2 and wasnt bothered by the smell.
The ECU reprogram from FVD will get rid of the CEL light and it is a ECM tune so you will getmore power from it. I ran my car with the straight pipes for while but it will get to be bothersome after awhile. The sound is intoxicating though, that is for sure. Esp. when you nail it in Hubbards Tunnel.

So then I will need to rip out the ecu again? I already have the upsolute program running, is that an issue?

Ask Upsolute and tell them you want to run straight pipes, they might have done the coding for the ECM as not to check for catalytic efficency as that is the codes you will get. I didnt get the CEL always, mainly I got them when I was stuck in traffic/slow driving. And then I would just clear the codes when i get home.

If you have a flash talk to them they usually offer a program to keep the CEL off. I have REVO and it is programed in.
The car will run better if it is in the software but from what I have been told the CEL is just on due to the cats being off and causes no harm. The only real harm is that if something ELSE is wrong you wont know.

I'd think you need a straight pipe program as I wonder what happens to the timing/fuel when the back pressure from the cats, etc. is all of a sudden missing?...sure it spools quicker. Somone posted about going to straight pipes and loosing bottom end torque...anyone?

You do lose some low end torque but gain high RPM torque. For those that can stand it the straight pipes are awesome.
