New exhaust... finally more POWER

Well, after waiting for months for the shop to fit me in, I finally picked up my car with new exhaust today. Gotta thank Ian and Andy at Hayward & Scott for doing an unbelievable job on it. Nice welds and great fit and finish - the first pics don't do their workmanship justice. Here are the specs:

- full T304 stainless
- 3" all the way through
- 100 cell race cats
- straight-through "cylinder" mufflers
- 2 cut stainless tips each side, 3" inside and 2.5" outside

First spin - holy crap, hit the rev limiter in 1st gear it accelerated so quick. Sounds really mean, it's not for those who like no "drone". Pops and barks on decceleration and is just all around wicked. Couldn't be happier with the outcome.

On the way home, the first time I really got on it in lower gears I spiked 1.3-1.5 bar on the factory boost gauge . What the hell, I don't even have any programming yet. I only got 0.6bar at WOT in the upper gears once on the highway, but keep getting these wild spikes in lower gears. Anyone have any ideas, let me know. I have my boost and AFR gauges on the way, and am going to replace all of the factory vacuum hose this weekend to see if that corrects it.

Also, stuck in traffic, still on the way home minding my own business - ABS and PSM lights go off and I get the dreaded warnings. Guess I blew my MAF. Now, do these warnings mean that my ABS and PSM won't work now (can't switch PSM on/off), or is it just a byproduct of the MAF failure? If it's just a warning, and there's no real issue other than some minor drivability and stuttering problems, what's the harm in running it like this? Shut the car off, unhooked the battery for a few min, and the warnings are gone... for now.

Will post more pics/video later - I'm just so stoked that my car sounds like it should now!

Congratulations Jimmer. I like your "pops and barks" reference . . . I have the same on deceleration, and that is a good description.

Thanks Craig. I have to admit, I took the pics of your exhaust to these guys and said "make that". I have a little catching up to do, but soon... very soon...

Thanks, you should hear it in person. For the B&M give Eric at BumperPlugs a call and he'll set you up.

Shoot me a PM with your info - we should definitely hook up for a bit of driving!

Looks like a quality exhaust. Very nice welds.

More evidence that isolating the banks yields a deeper sound. Jimmer, yours is "smoother" sounding than some of the other isolated-banks systems I've heard clips of. Sounds good! We need a drive-by vid!

Ur CEl is probably due to the exhaust not the MAF. The O2 sensors are picking up something funky... probably the 100 cells are too open...

No CEL, just the PSM and ABS warnings were going nuts. I'm going to go take it out for another spin in a few min to see if they light back up.

Any thoughts about the crazy boost spikes?

Drive-by vid will have to wait becaue the weather is going to be garbage for the next few days. I'll see what I can do tonight...

Jimmer, your exhaust should not be giving you PSM and ABS warnings . . . that is likely a different issue.

Thanks for the kind words guys, I'm a pretty happy dude right now.

Well, just took it out for a spin. No ABS/PSM warnings, no lights, no crazy boost spikes - holds 0.7 bar rock steady. Maybe I just needed to reset things again. With a removed waffle and atmos BOV, the addition of the new exhaust probably just freaked out the ECU.

I am completely confused now though. I have a Durametric on the way, so maybe that will shed some light on the issue.

And not only does it make the power, but man does it sound sweet. I don't envy the Ferrari or Lambo sound at all anymore. Hopefully I get some times next weekend to see what the impact is.
