OK, I did pull the second connector and went for a drive. Given 4 distinct opportunities for the spoiler to raise up, it did not...and I have no error messages whatsoever. So, for the case of my 2001 Turbo, it seems that both connectors were required for disconnection before this would work. I live in a climate where I rarely notice the fan come on, so I hope that others can chime in whether or not fan function is also affected by this mod. Thanks again to all who helped get this procedure sorted out.

GT2 & Aerokit Harness

Ok here we go the the only difference is the the brown wire on the top right, its dfficult to se where it merges in with the other wires in the harness due to the cover, anyway my Aerokit wiring harness works brilliantly;anybody wanta GT2 one for 50% of cost ??

I figured I bump this since I just unplugged mine with the spoiler up...I'll post in a day or two and see if the light comes on. I unplugged both plugs and tuck them up above the plastic.

I've had no malfunction messages for the rear spoiler since doing this on May 24, 2009. I did recently experience a CEL, but it resolved itself and never referenced the spoiler itself. The difference between mine and what Soundeffects' situation is that I stopped mine in the down position. I just wanted to follow up on this thread so people would know of my continued experience, but remember mine is a 2001 model.

Soundeffects,

I am pretty certain you will be fine. I simply unplugged the two connectors and tucked them up under the plastic a year ago, I drive the car every day and have never had the spoiler malfunction light come on. From my experience, there is no need to purchase a wiring harness, cut or solder any wires, etc.

If you squeeze the internals of the connectors so that the metallic contacts touch you will get the light the first time you exceed 75mph, though - so just make sure they are not under any force or loading and I think you will be fine.

Spoiler was up and then it went down after I was on the highway. So apparently this doesn't keep the spoiler up...Back to the drawing board. There is no light though, I'll give you that, lol.

I got in after work and plugged both plugs, in I started the car and got the malfunction light. It went up at 75mph, then it never went down, lol. Will see what happens tomorrow on the way to work.

Ok some updates.

1) with both plugs unplugged and some tape preventing the spring from making contact, there will be NO light. If the spoiler is up then it will automatically go down and never go back up until you plug both of them back in.

2)I do believe that with one of the plugs unplugged(not sure which one) the spoiler goes up and down but throws the malfunction code. I realized this after figuring out I didn't have both of them plugged in all the way and the wing was moving but throwing the code.

Easy to keep the light off, not so easy to keep the wing up. Still looking for that answer.

Angry

Please.
Does anybody know where to find the bolts/nuts that are in the wing itself that connect to the pistons? I can't remove mine from the aftermarket wing. I am selling it. Trying to put back my stock one.
Thanks

Have just done the unplug method, the motor is also disconnected as the connectors broke when pulling them out. Will report back.

Was getting spoiler malfunction on start up, and the usual when it should go up and down. Spoiler has never worked since I've had it anyhow, just want to get rid of the annoying malf messages.

996TT Tail Issue

Yep, I have a similar problem. Both cylinders are weeping; however, the tail goes up at 75mph, the light comes on when I get below 75 and the tail goes down automatically and can be raised and lowered manually. I just push the left joystick towards the dash when the light comes on at speed and it stops fussing at me. This is a really crappy factory system if you ask me. I called Porsche NA and they told me to buy a new system. They will do nothing to help. It is a pain in the A$$ for sure.

Just saw this thread. I just got a 2001 996tt and my spoiler is disconnected since one of the struts was leaking. I do get the light after 75mph and when it wants to lower it. There are a lot of methods in this thread. Which 2 connnectors should I disconnect? Is it possible to replace the hydraulic strut seprately from teh rest of the spoiler?

I can confirm that disconnecting the switches from the ram eliminate the MALF light and warning.

Works a treat and simple to do. Just use pliers to pull the switches from the ram and put them in small plastic bags away from one another and somewhere the switches won't get hit.
