I removed the rams and spoiler and prefer running with out them, just the fixed lower ducktail. So I don't get the warnings and lights I mini zip tied one microswitch lever closed. I believe its the lower one, but try either.

I went ahead and did it all. The hydrolic pump was still in there so i took that out and all associated wires. Its all nice and clean looking now. I will check tomorrow to see if the malfunction light is gone...fingers crossed!

Update: Spoiler malfunction light gone for good!!!

Nick49 - what do you do about the holes that are left from the rams?

I believe the fix is different for '01 models compared to 02+ which is what causes a lot of the confusion. For me on my 2001, I just had to leave both switches open (by removing them from the holder)

It's funny...because I tried to do that with the micro-switches from the start...but for some reason it didn't clear the light. Thinking it was crappy wiring done previously that was causing it not to clear. I removed the old HEAVY pump that sits behind the fan cover. No wonder why the trunk WAS so heavy! LOL

I've left the holes for the last couple of years and admit it looks like something is missing to those in the know. Those that don't know any different think it's normal.

My plan from the day I removed the rams and wing was to make a cover or plug. I made a template out of heavy paper actual size for reference. I thought about cutting some out of aluminum and rolling them to the exact concave shape then painting them satin black and gluing them in with silicone. I also thought about making a mold and casting some out of a black elastomer polymer and just pushing them in.

I'll get around to it sometime:-)

Updated solution for me:
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ml#post4521812

To remove the wire, pull the yellow cap and you will see the image below.

There are small tabs you need to deflect with a small screwdriver while pulling on the wire you want removed.

Pict of completed wiring (note this didnt work for me but in combination of the rennlist link from above did work).

Rahul Singh Dobal is infamous around these parts
Hi,
I have 2001, 996 turbo model.
model. My spoiler works perfect with the switch, but when I hit the speed spoiler extends but does not retracts , so there is warning in cluster. Here in these threads there is lot to digest. So I am confused,
1. Can I unplug both the wires from microswitch & leave it, warning will go away ?
I am not going to buy aero kit, just do not want the warning to go away ..
If this does not work I guess I have to buy the aero kit wiring , do they sell separate wiring ?
Thankyou

Additional info for future people looking into this:

If you look at post #107 there is a comparison between the aerokit harness and the gt2 harness. I put a GT2 wing on my car and it came with a GT2 harness. I can confirm that the GT2 harness DOES create the spoiler warning. I can also confirm that jumping pins 2 and 5 on the GT2 harness solves the problem.

So for those sourcing harnesses instead of using the turbo harness, the GT2 harness is also an acceptable solution with some light modification. I pulled the pin from the engine light as it was not being used anyway and repurposed it to create the 2 - 5 bridge.

There is a solution by Rennkit called the MicroModule Device.
