Viper Kill

Went down less than 15 minutes ago on my way into the office. A guy in a red Viper with a "VETT FED" personal plate was making obvious moves through traffic to catch me as I was making my way to the freeway on ramp. He did catch me and it was on from that point. 3 races total, 1 from a stop and 2 from a roll.

Race 1 - From a stop going onto the frwy on ramp it was a slaughtering. The ramp is straight and slightly uphill, approximately 2 10ths of a mile to where it merges with the lanes of traffic. As soon as the light turned green we both launched and the GT2 pulled away like he was standing still. I would guess at least 20 car lengths to the top of the ramp, the gap just got bigger the entire time.

Race 2 - From a roll at 70mph. At this point the Viper guy must have been feeling pretty cocky about what he could do to me from a roll. Maybe he spun from the light and thought that this would be his chance to show me what his car could really do, I don't know what he was thinking, but we did the 3 honk thing and Viper guy gave me the "See Ya" wave as we hammered it. I was in 3rd and started to pull on him steadily and immediately. Shifted to 4th and ran it up to around 140mph before shutting down. At that point Viper guy was probably 8 cars back, maybe more (giving him the benefit of the doubt). He pulled along side as we came up on some traffic and motioned that he wanted to go again.

Race 3 - From a roll again, this time at 80mph. Having just handed a beating to Viper guy in the previous roll-on race I was feeling pretty confident now, maybe too confident. This time I was already in 4th gear and decided to go from there. On 3 we went again, but this time Viper guy was door-to-door with me, and actually making a slight pull. He gained a couple feet of advantage before the GT2 started to breathe. At around 115mph he had to grab a gear, and from that point the GT2 pulled. I regained his previous advantage and when we let off at around 150mph his front bumper was even with my rear bumper.

We ended with a few gentlemanly waves and thumbs up. Judging by how close the last run was I assume he had at least a few mods. Exhaust was obvious from the sound, but who knows what he had under the hood. FWIW, my GT2 is FVD Stage 4 minus the intake setup.

I would guess a 1998 or newer. My bro has had a couple (a '98 and an '02) and this one looked exactly like his did. Not the new body for sure.

Yeah that's what I remember - 450hp. We always used to give my brother s&#t because he claimed the K&N air filter element he installed gave him an extra 50hp, bumping him to 500.

Back in the day, his modded '98 with straight pipes, intake system, bigger cam and lower gearing could barely hang with my 993tt with a simple flash. That's why I assumed this Viper dude today had something big brewing under the hood.

Had a similar situation when I was up in Gettysburg,PA. Had a 2003-2006 Viper Vert that I waxed. What made it sweeter was that my buddy was in his 2002Z06 and thought he was gonna get a piece of the Snake too... The snake beat him BAD...

They're quick, but they do suffer traction woes...

And I'd still own a viper over a Z06, primarely for the same reason I own a 996TT... You don't see one at every damned stoplight, like you do C6s!!
