Hello,

I haven't drove my Targa since Sunday 11/4. This morning I had to get a few things out of the car, and the keyfob wasn't unlocking the doors, the hood, or the glass hatch. I thought maybe my battery died, though the security light was still blinking red, I tried to open the door with my key and that wouldn't work either. Do you think my battery is dead? It's only been 7 days or maybe my key got damaged or out of sync with the security system some how?

is the red light blinking on the remote when you press it? if so, take the battery out of the key- turn it upside down and put in back in the key- leave it in there for a few seconds- then put it back in the right way- the soft remote reset might work

Thanks again for your help. I'll try when I get home. So currently the red LED flashes, I tried removing the battery and waited about a minute and put it back in. It continues to flash with red whenever I push a button on the key. I've never really payed attention to this, but during normal operation, how should the key light up when a button is pushed?

light on key button should flash rapidly, so should the light near the sun sensor on the center of the dash board when the remote is pressed

 

If you put the key in the door it should open. It doesn't matter if the battery in the remote or car is dead. Do you have a spare key? Maybe the metal key is damaged.

 

I was under the impression that the key remote was the only part that wasnt working- not that you couldnt open the door at all with the mechanical key- if you cant open it with the mechanical key you got bigger problems and the above statement is correct- problems like a door lock actuator or a lock clyinder. Is it just the remote that doesn't work or the whole key? perhaps I misunderstood.

 

Well if we are talking about the remote, the alarm system will "go to sleep" when the car is not opened within a week or so (don't remember exactly how long). Once you open the car door manually (the alarm will sound) it will wake up and fob should work.

 

This is scary, yet interesting. I leave my car in the garage for weeks at a time due to business travel. But, I don't lock the car when I leave. However, I have someone go to my house and start my car once a week and let it idle. If he sets the alarm after leaving then I could potentially be screwed...

Is there any documentation on this?

True- I think 7 days or so is about the norm- depends- but I still dont know if were are talking about an inop remote or a inop door lock

I don't think you understood my post.

If the car is locked for +1 week without activity the alarm system will go to sleep. This means you will NOT be able to open the car with the key remote. HOWEVER, you can open the car by using the metal key and manually opening.

This is in the manual.

 

Just checked on renntech.org and the user stated the following:

then messing with the remote, soft reset blah,blah blah isn't going to do any good- if the lock and the remote arent working its probably a busted door lock accuator-sucks.
